This pub is a huge contrast to the modern highrise that surrounds it, although the railway and Rochdale Canal hint at Victorian Manchester. I have known this pub for 20 years or more and it never fails to satisfy, retaining its beautiful interior of tiles and wood, etched mirror and bench seating, with high quality beers (usually from Lancashire brewers). It's an ideal place to talk away the odd hour with friends. If the weather and the passing traffic allow, there are several outdoor tables. Although it does not offer food, lovers of traditional city pubs and fine beer should make a point of visiting the "Pev" and maybe comparing it with the nearby 21st century bars such as "Home" and "Gasworks".

Visited here whilst up in Manchester for the weekend, as we'd heard good things. This is a proper unspoilt British pub, full of character. It's always good to see some of these old city boozers still thriving, amongst new building developments. The Brightside beer that we had was excellent. This place isn't to be missed if you're passing through town!

A traditional boozer with bags of charm. Beyond the tiled exterior lies a great selection of cask ales and a great juke box to boot. A real city drinking pub that is much appreciated by the locals and visitors alike. Also notable for stocking Titanic Plum Porter as a fixture on the taps. A treat to visit all the more in Covid times. I couldn’t fault the beer, and the crowd it attracts is absolutely brilliant.

Mid week visit and it felt warm & comfortable. There was some quietish folk music in one of the rooms but the main room next to the bar was nicely full. Some interesting pics on the walls of famous visitors.

10 years 2 months since my first visit . . . This time came with my boy ahead of cricket at Old Trafford. Nothing seems to have changed, which in the 21c is quite reassuring

Although last time Birmingham City had made the play offs!

If you are looking for a historic old pub with real character then this is the place for you. It has all the charm of never being changed for years, particularly in that the surrounding environment has changed but time seems to have stood still here making it just that little bit more special. The beer is pretty good as well!.

This is a Mancunian institution and is a wonderful place to spend some time. It is traditional and this is part of its appeal.

It is a little off the beaten track but I strongly advise trying to find it. There are three small rooms and the place is bursting with character. They even have a table football Game and outside seating for the summer.

The beers are reasonably priced and a good selection. It’s obviously has a lot of regulars and, bearing in mind the excellent atmosphere, it is no wonder.

This is a totally unspoilt gem of a traditional pub.

Friendly atmosphere, great selection of ales and a good jukebox too.

Manchester's best pub. A must visit.

Cantona loves it too.

This pub features on the cover of Manchester Pubs - City Centre and is in my mind one of the most iconic pubs in Manchester. Attached is the painting done of The Peveril for the front cover of the book.

This is how a pub should be, original tiled exterior, loads of character inside & some great beers to choose from. Anybody coming into Manchester MUST visit the “Pev” a Manchester institution.
