We had a weekend away in Manchester and was recommended Peveril Of The Peak as a great heritage pub in the city. It did not disappoint, with tonnes of character, a warm welcome and good beer.

This pub is a huge contrast to the modern highrise that surrounds it, although the railway and Rochdale Canal hint at Victorian Manchester. I have known this pub for 20 years or more and it never fails to satisfy, retaining its beautiful interior of tiles and wood, etched mirror and bench seating, with high quality beers (usually from Lancashire brewers). It's an ideal place to talk away the odd hour with friends. If the weather and the passing traffic allow, there are several outdoor tables. Although it does not offer food, lovers of traditional city pubs and fine beer should make a point of visiting the "Pev" and maybe comparing it with the nearby 21st century bars such as "Home" and "Gasworks".

This is a Mancunian institution and is a wonderful place to spend some time. It is traditional and this is part of its appeal. It is a little off the beaten track but I strongly advise trying to find it. There are three small rooms and the place is bursting with character. They even have a table football Game and outside seating for the summer. The beers are reasonably priced and a good selection. It’s obviously has a lot of regulars and, bearing in mind the excellent atmosphere, it is no wonder.

Somewhat of a Tardis in reverse, even more compact on the inside than the exterior would suggest. Facade is a true architectural gem, memories of what pubs used to look like in the early 1960's, warm, cosy, refuge from the bustle and troubles of the outside world. Number of snug like rooms. Had a wonderful time letting my mind wander to past adventures. Nostalgia - wow! - Long may this piece of history remain.
