Fascinating glimpse into what lie in store for anyone arrested by the police a century ago!

Newton Street is not one of Manchester city centre's most attractive streets. In fact the only noteworthy aspect is the Police Museum with its brightly-painted blue front door. When I arrived, I was greeted on the pavement by a 'policeman' wearing a uniform from the last century and carrying a long stick (not sure whether this was for walking or... More

This was excellent. We have been wanting to visit this museum for a while but had to wait whilst we was on holiday as it is only open on a Tuesday. It was well worth the visit. We was there for about 2 hours 30minutes. The staff were fantastic, most been ex police who were more then willing to share... More

We had a private tour for 11 adults. Our guide, Catherine, was excellent, very knowledgeable and entertaining. We were a bit short of time so we all said we'd go back some time to look at exhibits and read the information notes. Would highly recommend.

I had nothing planned for a Tuesday afternoon and decided to walk around town and at least get tea someplace. I had a great time here , the volunteers saw I was alone immediately introduced me to a large group with children and was treated like family. I was also fingerprinted and locked in a cell and met some retired... More

This was our first time and didn't know what to expect. We had 3 children ,one aged 8 ,one 12 and one 13. We were greeted at the door by a policeman in traditional uniform and a smiley face and from that moment on we were blown away by the friendliness of the staff and the willingness to explain and... Who would think the kids would enjoy this so much, we were worried that a museum and young kids (6-9) wouldn't work but it does here they loved all the police stuff and interesting for us old grey haired lot too. Do make very sure it's open before deciding to visit, maned by volunteers they sometimes don't have enough to... More

Took the kids at the beginning of the holidays....they found it really informative and interesting. The really enjoyed dressing up in helmets and jackets. My youngest was a little afraid of cells. But otherwise good fun

This museum is manned by volunteers, some in period costume, willing to help and answer any questions you care to throw at them. Children are welcome. The museum is sited in an old police station and although quite compact and contains many examples of uniforms, equipment and other historic articles and documents. The original cells are there to view as... More
