Me and a couple of friends went to get piercings today and went to the small studio on the top floor of Affleck's. Initially we noticed the customer service was good and the staff there seemed really friendly and approachable, especially since getting pierced can be slightly nerve-wracking and somewhat scary for some people (I really have no leg to stand on in this department). So we receive our appointments and the whole process is straightforward and quite relaxed, however afterwards both me and my friend felt dizzy, and long story short both collapsed - embarrassing to say the least. However the whole point of this review is to illustrate just how helpful and comforting the staff on hand were, not only in the studio but the whole building. All in all the experience was quite traumatic, but most definitely aided by the skill and patience of the people there. For any apprehensive first time piercers, would most definitely recommend going there. And maybe downing a redbull beforehand.

I'd heard of Afflecks from some of my friends but never been there so on my next visit to Manchester so decided to pay a visit.
The outside of the building has some amazing mosiacs of Manchester alumni so make sure you take time to enjoy them. It's just a short walk from Market Street and Picadilly Gardens.
The building has a number of different stalls in it with work from local creators and there are all sorts of things you can buy. Clothes, gifts, badges, pokemon cards, greetings cards, bags and much more.
If you like something a little different you should definitely check it out.

My friend and I used to love punk rock back in the 70s and the New Romantics of the 80s and looking round the stalls brought back so many memories for us. We felt like we had landed back in time.
There were alternative rock clothes shops, gothic themed shops, art work displays, retro sweets, badges, jewellery, cafes, pop art, music shops, crystals and so much more! There were even collectors shops and I took a picture of a display of WWE wrestling toys for my son, who loved them in his teen years.
There is so much nostalgia in here!
Not only that but the layout is quirky too. This is an old Manchester building with stairs and winding corridors all covered in pictures and pop posters.
If you were a lover of alternative fashion and music, or just someone who lived through the 70s and 80s you should visit here and remember your youth! ❤️

I’ve been visiting afflecks since I was a teenager, I’m now in my 30s and I’ve never had an issue until today.
Visited the piercing “studio” on the 3rd floor (now named Kimura) to have my nose pierced.
Guy who booked me in was nice enough, informative and friendly. They only take cash so he directed me to the nearest cash machine.
When I came back to pay I was stood at the desk, ignored by the girl and the piercer whilst they had a whispering conversation that I couldn’t hear. Fine, whatever. I paid for my piercing and was told to come back in 20mins.
As I walked away my friend heard the piercer say “that’s the girl I was talking about”. I didn’t hear it and didn’t think it would be about me because why would it be? I don’t know these people, I’ve never been pierced there before and if it was about me, they’ve just been having a conversation about me whilst I was stood in front of them, very unprofessional.
Off I went to the cafe for a quick tea (lovely people at the cafe so highly recommend!) and I went back exactly 20 mins to have my piercing done. As I’m stood there my friend and I heard the piercer again say “that’s the girl I was talking about, just come in here” to the reception girl. So this wasn’t a coincidence.
I felt so uncomfortable and did not what this person to pierce me that I asked for a refund and just wanted to leave asap. This has never happened to me before.
Still no idea what they were saying or what the issue was, never been pierced there before but I 100% will not being going back.
I’ll stick to holier than thou (they couldn’t fit me in today, though they were so nice and friendly about it but should’ve taken that as a sign.) and I’d encourage people to do that same.

This place is just basically a load of cheap stalls selling either second hand or unusual items.
We visited for my daughters birthday and she liked it but it wasn't really my cup of tea. Everyone was friendly, the cafe was good and their was some cool retro items on some of the stalls but it was just too busy.

What an amazing little box of secrets this place is. Its like a fun house in a theme park with a maze thrown in for good measure. So easy to find and fun to explore, there was a very eclectic mix of goods to buy from tattoos to coffee. All with a vintage theme. All the staff were very friendly and positive, no pressure to buy and felt I could just look around and not be bothered by pesky sales banter. Coffee, tattoos, old records, bath bombs the list goes on.
Even if you only visit Manchester once make sure you enter the bizarre bazaar I'm sure you will find something that holds you're interest

Walking through Manchester, thought i'd visit the independent Afflecks on Church Street.
Weird mix of Grunge / Goth clothing shops, with a café and tattooists thrown in.
Bit of a maze to navigate over several floors.
Most customers wearing masks.
I'd certainly go back, even though most shops are aimed at a younger market.

I’ve been coming here for many years.
This place is unique with an individual vibe. Some wonderful item's that you won't find elsewhere. The vendors are great as is the merchandise they sell. The art work throughout the building is amazing. You can happily spend a couple of hours exploring all that this iconic Manchester establishment has to offer.

This is a huge place with lots of floors and a lot of stuff in it. Promoting inclusion and equality for all which is great. As a teen I would have loved this place and spent hours looking around. Post covid I found this place a little much for me. It was too busy, too packed in and really hot. We had a super quick look around the floors and then left.

Very poor experience at ‘The Studio’ in Afflecks palace. Despite a phone call beforehand to check on info required for a piercing I was met with rudeness and a very abrasive manner when I turned up. No way am I letting you near me if that’s your approach! Went round the corner to a competitor without any issue- you are a complete disgrace!

Afflecks is made up of over 60 independent traders and each charge different prices depending product - nothing is particularly expensive.
Is there a car park

Hi,
Large multi storey car park right opposite. Plenty of parking in the general area, but the main NCP type car parks are expensive
how do I look at the prices for the piercing shop 'shiva' ?
Tony M

They do not have an online price list unfortunately. But if you let me know what piercings that you would like prices for I will find out and let you know. Thanks
