Really fun cooking class ending with a delicious meal! My 12 year old loved it and tried all sorts of things she wouldn’t normally eat because she’d cooked it herself. Jason explained everything very clearly and threw in lots of interesting facts as we cooked.

In the past couple of months, I have done two of Food Sorcery's wide range of courses. Both involved bread making and, although quite different. both were brilliant! I started with the Flatbread course, run by the supportive and empathic Jason. There were only four of us, and it was clear that a lot of work had been carried out to make the kitchen covid-secure. During the half day, we made four different flatbreads, with a distinctly Eastern/Middle-Eastern feel. The session was quite fast paced, but the team had prepped everything for us, so all we had to do was watch, copy and cook! The emphasis was on having fun whilst acquiring new skills, and I felt really supported. You could do this course as a novice and really enjoy it, acquiring a lot of confidence on the way. The second course I did was sourdough bread making. There were eight of us on the course, and several of us had been making sourdough, with various degrees of success - and failure - through lockdown. Dave had clearly spent a huge amount of time preparing dough and breads for us; we started with dough he had "prepared earlier" and learned how to get it ready for baking. We then made our own dough, which we took home to bake. Dave had also made each of us a starter to take home, so we could continue baking. Despite the reputation of sourdough, everyone produced a really good loaf from Dave's dough, and the one I baked at home was just about as good. I had a lot of fun on this course too, but I also learned a huge amount - mainly the sourdough baking is NOT as high stress, high complexity as the books and websites make it. I now enjoy baking once a week. Okay, one loaf was rather solid, but I feel free to experiment, having learned really important basic principles. Oh and we also has a great "high tea" sampling Dave's different loaves, with cheese and pate. Two excellent experiences.

Hi Juliet Thanks for spending the time to review the bread classes at our Cookery School! I think you have summarised them really well with the slight extra intensity of the Sourdough versus the flatbread! We have one more class that looks and enriched dough, bagels abs traditional! What do you think! See you again Mark
