Small but accurate memorial of the great man. Nothing showy, just how it should be. Well done whoever designed it.

A fitting tribute
Mar 2020
It is fitting that Manchester should pay tribute to this man for all he did for us in the war. The way he was treated in subsequent years, just because of the way he was, was frankly appalling. It is somewhat appropriate that he is now gazing in the general direction of the Rembrandt Inn, just across the Rochdale Canal. Sackville Park is not exactly the prettiest park I have visited, though maybe I came at not the best time of year. The statue could do with a clean-up. Well worth seeing if you are in the area.

A fitting tribute

On the one hand I think that a memorial of Alan Turing should be in a more high profile part of the city as he was such an important part of this country's history. On the other hand, he seems at peace here with his apple and it's an area where he will be rightly celebrated by all.

Fascinating fact: founder of Computer Science is written on the back of his seat as it would appear if encoded by an Enigma machine. It states 'IEKYF RQMSI ADXUO KVKZC GUBJ' but the 14th letter is a U and the machine can't encode a letter as itself.

markay163 on an educational visit; the Alan Cumming memorial (Sackville Gardens review). Really markay?!

The great man

Lovely memorial to the great man who was persecuted for his sexual preferences. Ironic that it is in the gay village but at least there is a memorial. Can’t ignore someone as important as this.

Nice memorial in a cute little park. Good quick stop to learn a bit of history, good to see several families making the stop with kids. A free tour meets here at 11 each day for 3 hour walkabout the city.

I am from Arizona in the USA and took the tour of Manchester that started at the Alan Turing Memorial. I learned about LGBTQ rights and horrors in England in the 60's, science discoveries that have changed the history of the World, the history of the Industrial Revolution that started in Manchester, how the textile industry in Manchester helped stop SLAVERY in the USA. Incredible history of Manchester and of England.

Important man worth a visit just to stop and think for a minute
Oct 2019 • Solo
Quite a moving memorial, take time to visit and just stop for a minute. Despite his efforts and great intelligence he wasnt respected or valued highly enough because of his sexuality, this memorial doesnt make up for the hurt he went through but at least does remember him, and now a permanent reminder and memorial in Manchester, go and sut down next to him

A nice memorial
Oct 2019
This memorial, in Sackville Park, close to Picadilly Station, is a very fitting tribute to a man who did so much to shorten WWII but who was then effectively persecuted by his country for his sexuality and who then apparently suicided (though it is also thought that it may have been accidental). There is space on the park bench part of the sculpture to sit and have your photo taken with him.

A very touching tribute to a great man
Jul 2019
We were in Manchester for less than a day and got to explore the city just a little bit. I am glad that we were able to find this memorial and talk with our daughter about Alan Turing's legacy. We felt touched that his life was immortalized in this sculpture and hope that other families will pay homage to this brave man.
