We were advised by the Tourist Information Centre to visit here. How right they were! What an amazing experience walking into a time warp. The Hart family have been working here since very early in the c.20th when they uprooted from London and came here with the Arts & Crafts movement. Talking with these amazing artisans whilst they beat and file the silver to shape using tools that are well over 100 years old is simply awe inspiring. They are so proud of their roots - rightly so! The finished products are beautiful works of art.

Harts is an old fashioned silversmith that makes bespoke items out of silver by hand. We we were recommended by an artist in the gallery below and popped in to see what they do. We were greated by two enthusiastic gentlemen who were part of a small group who carry on this old process. They demonstrated and explained to us some of what they do and showed us some of their products. Whether you are looking for a hand made product or are interested in learning more about how silver articles were made before the days of modern machinery then Harts is well worth a visit.

Easy to miss as it sits just off the main high street. Traditional silversmiths located in a workshop where time seems to have stood still. Filled with tools and artefacts and opportunity to see the guys at work. Well worth a visit.

It’s hard to believe that somewhere like this really exists, it definitely feels like you’ve invaded a workshop through a die you weren’t supposed to go through. Except, you are very welcome and the craftsmen are only too pleased to have you getting in their way and asking questions.

Step back in time and see the silversmiths working in the premises the company has occupied since 1902. Beautiful spoons and jewellery are available to purchase. Very friendly and knowledgeable.

Visited the Barn Museum in Chipping Camden to discover more about the Guild of Craftepeople who set up there.
Luckily the barn museum pointed us in the direction of Harts in Sheep Street- what an amazing place. We never expected to see a workshop still in action and much as it would have been when Ashbee brought the craftspeople to CC. Well worth seeking out.

Talk to any of the silver smiths to understand the depth of history & the skills required to make such exquisite items such as a chalice for a bishop
