Very very interesting place, exhibits are varied. I believe it is being replaced very soon though although I hope I've got this wrong.

The Doncaster museum is currently situated just under a mile on foot from the railway station. It is soon to move to modern new premises in the summer of 2020. Due to the forthcoming move, there was no art on display but there was still much of interest to view. Lots of fossils were on display as well as local wildlife. The ‘Owston Quagga’ (a stuffed hybrid cross between a quagga and a donkey) was an interesting exhibit. The Duck Decoy exhibit was fascinating and explained this Dutch invented concept of catching unsuspecting ducks. There were also some large sturgeon on show. These used to swim up the River Don but were regularly captured for the dinner table. Relics from Roman times were much in evidence. Danum was a strategic fort in those days. In more recent times there were displays relating to local industries. The railway, coal mining and brick making featured prominently. There was a room dedicated to the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry which detailed the conflicts and other roles in which they were involved over the years. On the sporting front, there was memorabilia from the racecourse, home to the St Leger and Gold Cup, as well as from Doncaster Rovers FC, with legends Alick Jeffrey and the still playing James Coppinger to the fore. I spent a most enjoyable hour and half browsing and look forward to visiting the new setup in the future. Admission is free.

Had some free time while I was in Doncaster so I checked out the museum and art gallery. It's quite big, lots of information about history and various exhibits. There's a Regimental Museum of the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry which is all about the wars they fought in. Moving upstairs is an art gallery. I went on a Saturday and it was really quiet. I spent about an hour here.
