Lovely museum, wide variety and very interesting artefacts! Nice educational day out for people of any age! Completely free of charge, with donation box available. Slight need of refurbishment as some of the interactive facilities were not functional.

If you have a spare hour while in Doncaster its museum and art gallery is a good way to spend it. This museum is only five minutes out of the centre of Doncaster and has something for everyone. It has a natural history part, local industry and archaeology part, a military museum as well as the art gallery which is... More

Fairly traditional town museum in terms of style, content and layout. Worth visiting for the excellent section devoted to the exploits of the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. It features numerous interesting displays. Doncaster's history, which goes back to the Romans, is covered pretty well. The town is associated strongly with railways, and the museum houses several fascinating items of... More

Dear Andrew G. many thanks for posting your review of Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery, and we are really pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit. You mentioned that the lighting was quite dim in places. The lighting is kept at a low level to protect the collections, which can be damaged if they are exposed to too much... More

I have recently discovered that my great grandad served in the KOYLI's during the Great War and having served in th army myself I was keen to learn a little more and visit the KOYLI museum. The whole set up was a nice surprise with lots to see. My only disappointment was not allowing sufficient time. Anyway that gives me... More

The building is fairly modern. The museum is well laid out and not too heavy in details to read. There are many exhibits and I feel that it is suitable for most ages. On our visit there were many school children who seemed to be enjoying themselves. The art gallery was empty of exhibits on our visit so cannot comment... More

Dear Welshperson, thanks for your review of Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery, and we are glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit. With relation to the art galleries, unfortuntaley you timed your visit between exhibitions, which explains why the walls were bare. If you visited again now you would see over 250 paintings in the gallery, which are all... More

My son has a Children's University passport and this is one of the 'learning destinations'. We enjoyed our time here and there are some interesting exhibits. Well worth a look and friendly staff.

We hadn’t been to Doncaster before so took the opportunity of having a look round the free museum. A lot of work has been put in compiling all the information round the museum and it is interesting having a wander round reading about how the earth was formed and the effect the different eras like the ice age had on... Spent a couple of hours at the museum and art gallery a couple of weeks ago. There didn't seem to be a flow around the exhibits, different periods were dotted around. There didn't seem to be anybody about to provide information, only when you first go in. (There is free parking, you just have to provide your car reg.) The... More

Spent over 3 hours in here and was shocked how good the information and history of the town was. Our kids range from 8 to 16 and they enjoyed too.
