In this day and age this zoo is out dated! All the animal enclosures are way too small and as a result the animals look depressed and defeated,it's quite upsetting watching the tigers either pace up and down or just sit looking empty of heart! Also the Orangatans oh my life they look so institutionalised I can't bare to go... More

A lot of great and majestic animals in this place and also have special animal talks and birds of prey displays to so try and stick around for those (they show you times for talks and displays on the map) One slight problem is the downhill slope leading towards the farm(from lemur wood) but apart from that they're top class.... Visited at Xmas to see Santa with our 4 year old son. Disappointed you had to pay to park but suppose that is the case at most places these days. The zoo seems pretty much unchanged from my last visit about 10 years ago and was obviously quite quiet due to the time of year. Could probably do with a... More

It looks like there is some ongoing investment being made in the site which is really good. A lot of the original concrete structures are still in use I think possibly some are listed?? It was very cold so some of the animals very sensibly stayed indoors but for many there was a view of their indoor quarters so it... More

There's a run down feeling to the whole place, paint jobs needed in quite a few areas. Animals often in pens that look way too small. It was a frosty day, very few people. Felt over priced for the whole place to be on such limited service. The chair lift was off for winter. The train wasn't running (there was... More

We came to see Father Christmas and visit the zoo. Overall we had a lovely day and saw lots of animals, more than we expected on a cold winter's day. My 2 boys also enjoyed looking round the castle. They had a lovely present from Father Christmas and the grotto was very good and staff friendly. The little fair was... More

Went with my girlfriend using a wowcher voucher; entry for two in Nov for £12. The offer is obviously to pull people in at an off-peak time and is good value. Naturally at this time of year it was a cold day to be walking around so the animals weren't doing a lot and a few of the enclosures didn't... More
