The Storey Tasting Garden
Oct 2021
Stumbled on this quite by chance and was lucky enough to meet one of the volunteers who is trying to restore this little oasis of calm. Lovely to talk to someone who has a real passion to make this project work.

City oasis

Wonderful find for people who don't want "smart" or "buzzing" but who rate quality, service and peace. Fantastic coffee, delicious homemade cake and lovely sandwiches (on real sourdough!), prompt friendly service. Lovely quiet and peaceful cafe for a read or chat. The gardens delightfully unkempt, a secret garden to escape from city life. Strawberries, apples and pears, red currants to nibble! Sit and write your thesis, craft your application, create something, have a real conversation.

Uninspiring
Jan 2020
I’m slightly surprised to see so many good reviews on here. I met up with two friends in the cafe last week and I thought the roast beef sandwich was poor. My first thought when I looked at my plate was “is that it!!!”. No salad. No crisps. Asked for horseradish to give it a bit of a lift but they had none. I’d like to give them the benefit of the doubt and say perhaps we were unlucky and the catering staff were having an off day. The lemon and turmeric cake did look lovely though, though on the expensive side. On the basis of this experience I have to say I would go elsewhere. Pity really as the place has great potential.

All under one rook
Nov 2019
This is what you get when you combine decent coffee with a tourist information centre, an exhibition hall, a library and a university meeting place. An real mix of activities, exhibitions and events under one roof in the very centre of the city. Also a great place to dig a shower or while away a couple of hours.

Good cafe and conference venue

Café in here is good and also used did conference facilities but wouldn't visit otherwise. Though does host the tourist information centre if you're looking for details on other places to go.

Lovely place for coffee

Nowhere to have a coffee or use the loo after the tour of the castle so we were recommended this place by the tour guide What a lovely place relaxed and my kind of coffee and cake will come again on a return to Lancaster

Called in for tea and cake and to visit tourist information
Jul 2019 • Couples
This was our second time here. We had been here on a previous visit to Lancaster as well. The cafe is very nice with inside and outside seating (weather permitting) and good quality food. Also visited tourist information and were helped by the friendly staff. Lancaster is quite a small city but it is easy to lose your bearings the free map from tourist information was very useful.

Helpful staff

This beautifully restored multi purpose building is worth popping in to. It houses the Tourist Information centre apart from anything else so it's a good plce to start if like us you have no idea what Lancaster has to offer. There is also a cafe and exhibition area

Must see Stained Glass Bay Window
Mar 2019 • Friends
Visit the Tourist Information shop on the first floor, lift available, hopefully, you'll get Paul on the desk, but I'm sure everyone else is just as helpful. He gave us directions to the superb stained glass window on the third floor, a spectacular display of paneled glass and Pre-Raphaelites artistry, stunning, this was my highlight of five days in the North West, Lancaster is a wonderful hidden gem of a City and shouldn't be missed. :)
