We visited the Priory church which is just behind Lancaster Castle. This is a beautiful church which is steeped in history. Medieval architecture, beautiful stained glass windows and wooden pews. Plenty to see and admire or sit and reflect in silence. A peaceful retreat.

This is the main Anglian church and was formerly the priory church. The highlight is the regimental chapel of the Lancashire Battalion which includes some Coptic crosses. Some good carving and interesting embroidered backs to the choir stalls. Next to the castle

Didn't have much time here as we were only passing through Lancaster, but glad we visited the priory. Beautiful building with history going back many hundreds of years (although it was much repaired in the latter centuries). Staff were very pleasant and we got to hear the lovely organ bring played. A good place.

The Lancaster Priory is a large, beautiful church, and more than other churches and cathedrals we have seen across Europe, this one shows signs of an active and involved congregation. The wooden carved choir stalls are lovely, as is the stained glass, and the design of the priory itself.

We were in Lancaster for a few hours and decided to go to the Castle, but on getting there we were told that it eas guided tours only and the nect one was over 45 minutes wait.. disappointed we came out ans saw the Priory to our right. I suggested a quick look inside to try and salvage some of our disappointment.

We were blown away by the sheer beauty of the Priory's interior!!
The stain glass windows were so colourful and detailed, as we started walking around, a gentleman who was avolunteer guide approached us offering leaflets with more information about the history and extra points of interest... greatly appreciated!!

We finally came across the magnificent two sets of organ pipes and stayed reading the leaflet about them, as we stood, the guide again approached us and we cimmented how beautiful the Organ pipes were, his resonse?? Would you like to hear them play?

Wow!!
What a treat!!

He/ they were amazing!!
Thank you for a fantastic experience!!
A truely magical moment..

One of Lancaster's hidden gems the Priory used to have coffee shop but now with the Castle entrance being at the front of castle the Priory and the coffee shop have both been forgot and as a result the coffee shop has now closed but don't let that stop you having a looksee

Had a lovely afternoon looking round the Moon exhibition. A real bonus to experience the afternoon concert with such a gifted pianist.

An attractive church with plenty of interesting things to see.
There is a great view from the hill on which the church is built.

It's a very nice little place, worth having a wander around if you're stuck waiting for the castles tour to be ready to go.

The interactive organ is also a very nifty little feature.

This is a really beautiful church with an amazing history. We happened to just be walking in as a tour started (don't know how regular these are - maybe we just got lucky!) and it was really interesting, talking us through the architecture and the history of the building. Definitely worth a visit.
