I love a ride through the trough, always quiet with beautiful scenery and little villages for food and drink breaks along the way. Good for wild life spotting and walking if you can muster the energy. Been through in every season and the changes are stunning.

The drive through the Trough of Bowland is well worth it. Great drive although some of the roads are quite narrow and slow driving but that allows you to appreciate the scenery and the many different routes to take to view this area. The spam van, plus many other things to eat and drink may be a stop if you... More

The Duke of Westminster has a "home" up here and you may wonder why. This short road from Lancaster, the county city, over the moors was used to convey the Pendle Witches in the 1700's to court, is only a few miles from either Clitheroe or Lancaster and takes you into a varied landscape. The Puddle Duck cafe at Dunsop... More

These are some of the best biking roads in the UK. The road surfaces are generally good and the scenery is breathtaking. Intermittently scattered with olde worlde pubs, what more could a biking tourist want?

This is a beautiful scenic drive through gorgeous untouched countryside. I just hope the silly frackers are not going to spoil the view. Surely, The Duke of Lancaster will not let this happen?

The afternoon we went was foggy though so the roads were slow going ( as they should be in my opinion anyway ). The air is so much more fresher and be amongst the open lands with the animal gives a really true rural feel. There are som great little place to pull in to take on the inspiring views... More

Country road with some spectacular views of the local scenery. Probably best avoided on sunny weekend days unless you are happy to mosey along behind traffic taking the atmosphere.

Been going through the Trough for years, on motorbikes mostly at speed so not really appreciating the views. Also spent time down here at Uni in Lancaster, more leisurely days drinking beer by the bridge. Will probably have my ashes scattered here!
