Ok - maybe I'm a little biassed, as a proud Lancastrian, but the Trough of Bowland is a stunning area, with an incredible range of scenery. Narrow country lanes, many with overhanging trees; wild, open moors; roads through lush farming areas; and a height, atop the Trough road itself, of 1,000 ft. As a lad, I used to cycle from... More

This is a great area that seems to have been kept a secret. It's beautiful with fantastic scenery. Very green... probably because they get so much rain.

This is one of the country's undiscovered wonders. Very little Internet access or phone coverage... Arrr. OMG we had such fun with the children we played for hours in the woods, walking along lovely walkways and looking for wildlife. It was amazing everything such as Grouse, Dears, Eagles to fish to name but a few. This children were disappointed they... More

To avoid the jam-packed M6 three weeks ago, having had a brilliant meal at the Three Fishes restaurant/pub near Whalley,we decided to go home via Clitheroe and the Trough of Bowland. The weather was perfect, and as always, the wild, inspiring scenery beautiful.

Always drive through this lovely spot when we are that side of the country. Very beautiful scenery and villages and of course the odd coffee stop and some lovely eateries too

I've travelled up the M6 motorway many times through Lancashire not knowing the stunning natural that was just over the hills. Now I know and it's one of the most beautiful places you'll ever see. Have a look at the pics, I hope the weather is fine when you go too.

My first visit to the area included this recommended route. The scenery is outstanding and let's you see a beautiful part of the country. Plenty of stopping places on route and a few pubs on the way if you want to stop for a drink or lunch.

If you like motoring days out this is a superb road, especially on a weekday when its quiet. The best bit is from travelling East to West and reaching the Jubilee Tower at the summit and seeing the whole of Morecambe Bay and beyond.

If ever you find yourselves in Lancaster or the surrounding areas take a trip through the "Trough" you will not be disappointed, at every opportunity we travel through the area although we liver near, it still amazes us with the sights and sounds. Magical.
