Just got back from the play in the park. Brilliant. Great actors, great sets, fantastic adaptation. Only on until mid August (I think). What a wonderful way to watch a show. Rambling round a wonderful park. Would love to show pictures but no photography allowed. (No problem for me)

Turned up for a DJ set as a Prince tribute tonight 3rd June. DJ playing some great sounds but unable to get a drink at 11.20pm despite the gig being advertised till 12 midnight! Get your act together and get some decent bar staff. About 12-14 customers turned away at 11.15-11.30pm tonight , your loss Dukes Golden Lion's gain :(

Hi Maureen, thanks for taking the time to comment on your experience at The Dukes on 3 June. The fantastic DJ we had played from 10.15pm following the 6.15pm Purple Rain screening, but we took the decision for him to stop playing 30 minutes early as there were very few people in the Cafébar at this time, and as a... If you visit Lancaster check out the listings for this lovely little theatre and cinema. We had the pleasure of watching some of the best performances of Shakespeare around yesterday. The Tobacco Factory company from Bristol are touring with 'All's Well that Ends Well' and 'Hamlet'.Both plays were excellent and Alan Mahon's portrayal of Hamlet, in particular, was spell binding. We... More

I've been so many times to see films and plays and never been disappointed. The bar is good so you can take drinks into the theatre with you.

The Dukes Theatre / Playhouse also hosts some outdoor play type attractions which are equally well organised. The Dukes Theatre is great value for money, clean and warm. It is far better than the usual commercial cinemas as you get the impression the place is run for the benefit of film / drama / local arts so it must be... More

I went to watch the latest James Bond film there and I really enjoyed it. There was plenty of room as well. It is by far the most affordable cinema in Lancaster.

Went recently to see Alan Bennett's Lady in the Van. It's was a like going to see film in an old style picture house rather than a faceless multiplex. Staff very helpful and more economical than the more modern cinema. Well worth a change of venue to see a movie or show.

I love the Dukes. I really love it - I've seen some amazing plays and films here over the years but yesterday I had a big disappointment. Before attending a matinee there my husband & I dashed into the cafe bar (advertised as open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.) to snatch a quick lunch about 40 minutes before the... More

This is really popular with locals, there is always something on. There are visiting theatre companies and performers in two venues (one conventional stage, one smaller in-the-round); films (English-language and foreign with subtitles); displays by artists, plus a pub-cum-cafe with small meals. You can become a Friend and get discounts. As Lancaster is a University City the demand for modern... More
