About
Turbary Woods Owl and Bird of Prey Sanctuary is a pure volunteer based, non profit group of volunteers. The flying display give you the visitors, Children & Adults, the chance to participate in the flying display and have our birds land on your gloved hand as they fly to you for their food. We have a collection of over 80 birds of prey including eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, vultures and more unusual species. All the birds are housed in large open fronted aviaries, sheltered in a woodland setting. We assist conservation and education of these beautiful Birds and we are involved with an average of 50 rescues each year.

Friendly and knowledgable staff
Jul 2021
We really enjoyed our visit in July 2021. The keepers are friendly, knowledgable and passionate about the welfare of the birds. My 9 year old absolutely loves birds of prey and the keepers took the time to talk to her and let her see the birds up close on their way back from the flying display.

Amazing birds of prey. Excellent!

Hidden away behind a garden centre you'll find a surprising bird sanctuary. It's clear from the off that the staff (particularly John) are passionate about these birds and their welfare. This is a very interesting place to visit and they are always on hand to answer any questions that you might have. The flying demonstration at lunchtime is not to be missed. Adults and children alike will love it. Spend around 3 hours taking it all in (including the flying demonstration) although you can stay all day if you like. First class.

Interesting inexpensive day out for both young and older.
Jul 2021 • Family
The children loved the birds landing on their arms and heads. Was busy so took a while to get round to everyone so the youngest got restless after a while. Had our picnic on the tables by the lake. The children also enjoyed finding the numbers of the fairy houses and were thrilled to receive a small prize. The volunteers are doing an excellent job. We had a lovely day out that was educational and inexpensive.

A fantastic place in Preston. The volunteers were friendly and informative. John did the flying demonstration, he was great! He obviously loved the birds and was very knowledgeable regarding all aspects of the birds, keeping and knowing the story of every bird. We can't recommend this place enough. Well worth every penny ( which is ploughed back into the attraction and up keep of the birds) super job every one!

Lovely family day out!

The birds of prey display was our favourite part of the day. It was very interactive and the team make everyone feel involved, the kids loved it! They also really enjoyed talking to the team, they're very good at explaining things on a level appropriate for the adults and children they're talking to. A fun added extra is the trails they have there, this provided lots of reasons to explore even more. Great day for all the family!

A large sanctuary run by enthusiastic volunteers with owls and other birds of prey. There are descriptions of the birds which helps you know more about them.
I missed the 12.30 flying display but am planning a trip back soon. You don't need to book, just turn up,
