Neglected historical starting place of Solihull
Sep 2017 • Solo
Sadly the previews review of this historical moated manor site are correct. It may well go back to Saxon Times as it was probably the base of one of the lading families in this area, even before Solihull itself was a proper village. Now it is just a neglected mound of earth - vandalised by the locals, no notices or information. Yet another tragedy of the lack of money of local authorities to treasure & maintain their heritage and an example of how the locals make a bad situation worse. If you are a local
interested in history, go & look & try to encourage an improvement in its existing state

Oh Dear!
Jul 2018 • Solo
I decided to look at this wooded monument on the way to a meeting and oh dear what a bad decision that was. Firstly I had to negotiate the gang of cannabis smoking youths at the entrance. Feeling decidedly light headed and slightly nauseous from the smell of the smoke I headed down a path. Shortly afterwards I hit upon a very muddy area that gave me the distinct and unnerving impression that the mud was created by humans using the area as an outdoor loo rather than the impact of bad weather. After a short distance I had to start dodging numerous dog mess deposits whilst trying not to get stung by the thick sways of stinging nettles . The whole area seems overgrown and neglected. As you go deeper into the monument the traffic noise from the main road lessens which is pleasant, but I did not hear a birds or even spot a butterfly; it seemed completely devoid of any wildlife, maybe they were all comatose by the smell of drugs? I am certain if the monument was better managed it would improve the visitor experience - as for now I wouldn't be tempted to go again

Have visited this monument for years. Sometimes with the dogs. However would love to know its history as very little is known about it. Shame that it is wearing away.
Don't go there in the dark or walk through alone. Have been handbags and bikes taken in the past.

Hobs moat ancient monument
Oct 2016 • Solo
Not much to look at anymore. You can see deep hills where the moat would have been full of water and where the castle would have been in the middle. Their is also a sign at the one entrance to the woods which explains everything about Hobs moat ancient monument.

It's a great place to ride around on a mountain bike because of the deep hills and many kids play their in the woods.

it does not have a lot to offer but you do get a sense of history, very pretty but not much of a monument

Small but Lovely

This is a little bit of quite historic greenery in the middle of a built up area. Quite a small little copse, but very welcome - cool and green in the summer, and usually full of autumn colour later in the year. We walk here regularly.

This place is best avoided, its just a overgrown dogs toilet, should you visit there make sure you take some spare shoes, lucky for us we were in the area visiting elmdon park "much better" or it would have been a waste of time and petrol.

An ancient part of Solihull
Feb 2015 • Solo
Hobs Moat is the site of an ancient moated house long since demolished. There is little to see apart from earthworks. It is popular with dog walkers and kids on mountain bikes. If you are interested in its history, I would recommend you research the internet in advance of a visit.
