Well worth a visit. Had a nice meal and drink. Popped in to the bird section. Would love to go back for one of their entertainment nights.

I went here with a friend for coffee and cake and although the surroundings were lovely I thought the service could do with some improvement. The wait to submit an order was lengthy to say we were second in line. I wouldn't be put off by this because of the lovely chilled atmosphere it's worth the wait.

Visually this is a lovely place however as I struggled to get the pushchair over the pebbles with my 4 month old in and toddler son at my side near the entrancee, I was told by a member of staff that I am not allowed to bring my own water into the centre (the waterbottles were visible out the sides... Hi thank you for your review and giving us your valuable feedback. I completely understand what you are saying and as of this week the umbrella tables next to the beach will be no smoking, that is a great idea. As for the water, this is a very complicated issue for myself and Akamba staff - personally a breast feeding... More

I don't know how to describe this, other than a bar, a restaurant, a kid's play area, windy paths round African plants and sculptures, and a gift shop. It has so much character, every twist and turn reveals something new and quirky. The food was extra special. We ate the Caribbean taster and the goat curry, and the portions were... More

Fantastic place to visit. Really has the spirit of a jungle and beach. The food is great with an African theme.

I reviewed Akamba some time back and left very positive comments. I have to say that if today had been my first visit I wouldn't return. The restaurant was busy, and there were too few staff on duty; one was inexperienced and still learning the job, one was not allowed to serve at the bar, one seemed to be coping... More

A great place to browse, if it is sunny, a wonderful place to have a drink in the afternoon. Dogs welcome, and looked after by way of water bowls, you only have to ask, the staff will sort. Great selection of plants, great prices too. The animals are something else, well worth a visit. The food split the group, I... More

I went by train. It's only a few minutes walk from whitlocks end station. I wouldn't call akamba a garden centre as it's nothing like a typical garden centre but it's definitely a unique tropical (when the sun comes out) place to visit. You really need to visit on a sunny day to see the plants at their best. Loved... More

Something a bit out of the ordinary, the garden centre was more for large plants but made a nice area with a jungle feel, with metal animals all around. A beach play area for the children, and loads of places tucked away to sit and enjoy a drink. We had tea and cake, a good selection. The food menu looked... More
