Permanently closed

Just so everyone knows the museum is mothballed and closed until further notice. The building still houses the excellent library.

Go check out the leather museum or the art gallery instead, and hopefully the place will reopen one day.

We waited and there was nothing

We were expecting to visit the library and the museum. We did, only the library which is a full of knowledge place (should see the kids zone).
The museum was closed, no nothing to say.

Very good.

Unfortunately we have to visit Walsall sometimes, and the museum offers a very warm welcome from the overwhelming smell of cigarettes and cheap food. After all of the running around today my family and I visited the Mat Collishaw exhibition. Moody and thought provoking, it did make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. The staff are always very polite and extremely helpful, and best of all don't look down on children as If they were something unpleasant. We have visited the museum a few times now, and every time is a happy experience. Highly recommended.

A small but interesting and entertaining museum. Probably best suited for families with sub teens children.

Enjoyable look at local history

A very small museum but one that is a must see if you're a local resident. It is an interesting look back at Walsall and one I found it to be very informative. I wouldn't say, however, that this is must view attraction from those coming from far away and there is a lot more that could be done to help improve the overall quality of the museum.

Could easily spend all day

A typical museum, interesting and laid out well. I love getting lost in these places, ideal to spend a good few hours on a rainy half term

A shame. The Council seem ashamed.

The Museum is a mere shadow of what it may have been and what it used to be. It is barely noticeable and is merely an adjunct of the public library. It is difficult to get to and difficult to park nearby. It has fallen foul of cost cutting by Walsall Council and it will be shut down. Walsall has a fantastic and proud history which the Council seem to have no interest or pride in. There is little to see in the Museum which occupies part of the first storey of the Library, apparently huge amounts of artifacts are in storage. It would make some sense to combine the Museum and Art Gallery together in the huge and mainly empty art gallery building which the Council has wasted many millions of pounds on. A shame.

left to starve

Have been visiting Walsall museum for over 40 yrs as man and boy. It has never been in a great position for publicity purposes but visiting it now is quite sad compared to haow it was as it has shrunk to almost nothing.

Walsall and surrounding areas have a massive history to talk about and should combine with information about the rich ethnically mixed town it has become. The museum can't do much where it is but gasp its last few breaths before it dies.

Move it to the Art Gallery in Walsall with its big footfall, comparatively lavish funding and desperate need to be less dull than it is.

Long live the Museum!

"Not much to see!"
We've been to a few museums in the past like the wolves one which was great but this one really didn't interest us much to be honest even tho it was free entry!
Small building hidden besides the town wharf, was easy for us to find as we only live a few miles down the road but for outsiders it could be a funny difficult place to find, kids enjoyed the run around but wasn't really my cup a tea!
