We went here with some friends and the selection of games were amazing. Though even though you're sat in front of them you aren't allowed to touch them, which we completely understand because of covid but I wish there was some sort of board game menu we could look through. How can you pick from a selection of 100s of games just by looking at the titles? We asked the waitress to recommend some and she did but with a really vague explanation and awkward behaviour :). The food and drink here is pretty basic for the price also. The concept and the games in this place are so so good just wish they had better explanations/descriptions of the games and better food and drink!! With those things added it could be awesome.

Hi Rashida, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. For future reference, our board game directory can be found on our website, with games sorted alphabetically, by category and by number of players. A physical copy is also available at the cafe and a board game recommendation menu is displayed on the bar. The waitress who served you is our newest member of staff and this was her first shift back after months being on furlough. We will take your comments on board and remind her to utilise the board game recommendation menu in future. We will also consider adding our board game recommendations to future iterations of our menu, as we can appreciate it can be difficult to choose a game at the moment without being able to peruse the library. In regards to food, we are currently operating a reduced menu due to reduced opening times and reduced staff. We have tried really hard to cater to a wide variety of dietary tastes and requirements, including burgers, pastas, burrito bowls, curries etc with veggie, vegan and gluten-free options. We are hopeful that in future when we are not operating during a pandemic the food options will increase to what it once was. I am surprised to hear that you weren’t happy with the drink options, because we are extremely proud of our coffees, milkshakes, and local beers in particular. If there is something that you felt you wanted that we did not provide, or if you were unhappy with what you ordered, please let us know specifically so we can look into it and look into expanding our options. Covid has definitely challenged the hospitality industry - safety for customers and staff has always been paramount to us so we hope that despite the cons that overall you felt safe and would be willing to visit us again, thank you for coming and supporting your local independent business!

We went here after discovering it by accident whilst walking as we live nearby. The shop is very clean and well presented, the staff are all very nice and polite and professional and dress in theme with the place and clientele. They have loads of games, i mean loads, like 300, so this is a place for people wanting to come here for the novelty and for serious gamers. The toilets are clean, decor is fun and well maintained and well air conditioned. They have taken COVID 19 very seriously and are sticking to the rules very strictly, probably the best place I have seen in the whole of Watford. Their menu is nice, modern and has excellent veggie and vegan alternatives which is unusual. You pay £1 or 1.50 an hour to play the games which seems fair too. They have double level tables so you can continue your game on the table top whilst putting your food on the lower level. The big negative here is the cost of food, we are a family of 4, 2 adults and two small kids and a very modest lunch came to close to £70 with a few hours of board games, which is pretty outrageous. Modest dishes which arent really big enough for lunch start at around £7, so even though its nice it isn't cordon blue eating. That's really the only drawback.

Hi Kevin, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are passionate about making our customers feel safe whilst at the café, so we are really pleased that this is being noticed and appreciated! I’m pleased to tell you we have considerably more than 300 games; we actually have over 900 games in our library, so as you say, there’s plenty to play for the casual and more seasoned gamer. Regarding food, we are currently operating our reduced menu which can be found here: https://www.d20cafe.co.uk/menu/ Our dishes start from as little as £4, and our burgers are a steal at £4.90 – which we think is great value compared to most other board game cafes and restaurants! We also think our big bowl prices are comparable to other local eateries, but we will take your feedback on board and review the price for future menus. Your bill did include 5 drinks (including slushies and milkshakes) as well as dessert, which perhaps you overlooked, as these things can add up. As you took part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme with 50% off food and drink we hope you feel that overall you had a good day out for a good deal. Our menu is often evolving and changing especially during this time, and our previously extensive menu has had to be reduced due to Covid. We hope you will consider visiting us again and find more items appropriate to your price range in future!

This was our first proper visit as a family and we loved it!. Staff were friendly, welcoming and informative. The amount of games to choose from was insane we did resort to google to get info on games, as we wanted to try out unfamiliar ones. We had great fun playing several of the games and enjoyed a meal half way through. Staff asked us if we were ok or needed help without being intrusive and we felt very comfortable to have our usual arguments and banter when we play board games. We've already decided to return again when we're all free on a Saturday or Sunday.

Hello, I'm really sorry to hear that you didn't have a good experience with us. I have asked staff whether any food orders were refused lately but no one can recall this incident. If you could please let us know in more detail what happened I will investigate thoroughly and retrain staff as appropriate. Also please include the date and time of your visit, and a description of the staff member(s) in question. https://www.d20cafe.co.uk/contact/ We pride ourselves in our excellent customer service and take reviews like this very seriously.
