Maidstone is lucky to retain a relatively large number of its old-fashioned street corner pubs, and this is one of the best.

Always a welcoming atmosphere from staff and other punters, smart yet characterful decor (check out the lovely tiled fireplace!). Usual range of lagers, ciders etc - ale selection not vast (Timmy Taylor Boltmaker/Landlord and Youngs, usually) but well kept. Would recommend to anyone.

This is the best pub in Maidstone. Great beer and great staff. You feel welcome as soon as you set foot over the threshold. A country pub in a town.

I had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting the landlord after he had asked my best friend to leave under very spurious conditions.

K then explained that as this was a good friend of mine I would no longer be attending his overpriced & haughty establishment.

I would rather eat rat poison than to ever darken their doors again.

Funny looking pub tucked on a corner but full of characters and friendly staff we popped in once as it's not are normal local but I walk past it every morning on way to work so thought we try it on a night out, go so involved we ended up staying there most the night. It's a cheerful place would definitely pop back in on nights out again small but not cramped

We have lived just down the road from the "F'n'L" for nearly 20 years and have popped in occasionally over that time, sometimes enjoying it, other times not, as it has changed hands and the landlord's taste has prevailed in one way or another. However, it has stayed open despite it's tiny, tiny size and held on to it's identity as a local drinkers pub without having to get a Michelin starred chef installed (it couldn't work anyway: too small!) to stay afloat.
I am delighted to say the new landlord seems to be just the man for the job and I have been in quite a bit since he took over, particularly as my son is now of an age to start the noble pursuit of bar propping. The decor is very pleasing and tasteful but feels completely authentic. The candlelight on the odd evening is a magic touch, the beers are excellent and the welcome is friendly, but not intrusive. If a bit of bar chatter with strangers is wanted, go for it! Occasionally, some of the ladies get over-excited and turn the music up a bit louder than I would like, but this is a weekend thing and not guaranteed to occur. In an age where neighbours barely talk to each other apart from to complain about the leylandii or whatever, this place feels it is keeping the torch alight for some of the better things about "the old days". At last, I've got a local.

I have stayed at the Premier Inn in Maidstone and used my Cask Marque, Cask Finder app to find this pub. A little gem, a proper old school boozer. It tends to favour Timothy Taylor beer and it is well kept. I have been there on darts nights and also poker nights. A friendly atmosphere.

We went to this tiny corner local pub for a drink and were stunned that places like this are still providing a social need. Everybody ( all five customers) in the bar knew each other, and we were made to feel welcome. It would be ruined if overrun by tourists.

I love this pub, such a friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately we don't get to go out often but if we did I'd be proud to call this my local.

You know it's full of locals when they go quiet as you open the door - but not for long.

Really nice "old school" pub. Clean, friendly, quaint, good beers.

Definitely a pub I'd be proud to call a local. :-)
