This was my best vacation day ever! Phil was friendly, enthusiastic, and well informed about Jane Austen and the area! We brought our 16-year old triplets on their first overseas trip. We stayed in London, but easily traveled by morning train to meet him. It really helped my children understand the relevance/continuity of the teenage condition and also to appreciate... More

Phil Howe's Jane Austen tour was wonderful beyond our expectations. Phil's welcoming demeanor immediatly put us at ease as he lead us on what turned out to be the most interesting and intimate tour of our entire vacation in England. I have a hard time imagining a better one. My wife and I have been Jane Austen fans all our... More

Prior to my last trip to the UK, I spent a considerable amount of time searching for the prefect Austen tour. I am so happy that I found Hidden Britain Tours and booked a private tour with Phil in June 2015! The tour not only lived up to my expectations; it far surpassed them. Phil's ability to paint a picture... More

Stepping back into Jane Austin’s world with Phil in early July, 2016 was a highlight of a recent trip my daughter and I took to England. (It helped that we had prepared for our trip by reading the book Jane Austen A Life by Claire Tomalin.) One of my favorite parts of our time with Phil was just driving around... More

I don't think I will ever beat this this tour as favorite in my life. After 30 years of reading Jane Austen novels and biographies and her letters, it "pierced my soul" to see the countryside and buildings where she lived and visited. Comfortable timing. Phil knew the territory, the characters and scenes In her novels, the facts, and most... More

We had our tour with Phil Howe. He was very pleasant and knowledgable. He stopped at multiple places and would give detailed information about the area related to Jane Austen. We stopped for lunch and he continued to answer our questions. He was also able to answer questions not related to Jane Austen. It really was a beautiful country tour... More

Our guide for the day was an incredibly knowledgeable gentleman named Phil. We were able to gain an intimate view into Jane's world; the people, politics and landscape that shaped her worldview and influenced her timeless writing. We had a lovely lunch where we were able to discuss what we learned, what we loved about her books, favorite characters and... More

My friend and I met Phil at Basingstoke train station. (I stayed over at the Fernbank Hotel-great place if you need to book accommodations in the area). If you're a Jane Austen fan, you will be in your glory! Phil drove us to places we never could've found on our own-even to the field (the house is no longer there)... More

This was my second trip to England, the first being almost ten years previous. I very much wanted to see Jane Austen's house and visit the village where she lived, so I stayed in Chawton, across the street from her home. I found Mr. Howe's tour online, and was so pleased with the entire experience that I recommend it to... More

Initially, my husband accompanied me on this tour of Jane Austen's Hampshire to indulge my fascination with Austen's works and life. But Phil's expert knowledge of the history and area drew my husband in as well. Phil took us around to the great estates Jane visited in her dancing days, as well as to churches to pick out medieval graffiti,... More
