We had a fabulous time at the Octagon Theatre, Bolton, watching 'Home I'm Darling'. This was our first return to live theatre in over 18 months, but the team at the Octagon ensured people's safety was a priority, with us opting for a 'socially distanced' performance. We were seated in the Balcony (J41/42), and had an incredible view of the stage. The theatre is really lovely and modern inside, with a lovely bar for pre-theatre drinks and drinks during the interval. Parking is available on the NCP next door for a nominal charge after 6pm. It is great to see theatre back up and running, especially here in Bolton.

My wife and I went 5 times last year and a few times before that. One of the performances was Singing int the Rain. It was brilliant. The shape of the theatre is Octagon shaped of course. The seating is so close to the actors you could touch them. It is possible to have a meal there prior to the start of the play and a drink at the interval. You can park your car at a cheaper rate if you get your car park ticket stamped at the payment desk. The atmosphere is great in the theatre. Last year the whole theatre was refurbished and it has only recently been opened again. I am told it is great but I haven’t been to a show this year yet. Looking forward to going though.

Dear trip advisor yesterday day I went to the Octagon thearter. In Bolton it was
Wicked.I liked all the stomping and the roof it was cool I loved it. the acting
They' we're really good actors and actress. One giant was caled the Blood botler
The Bone cruncher and the fresh lump eater were rotten friends for ever...
But the BFG is defiantly not friends with the over Giant!
The set have good Technology and I like Sophie's acting a lot she did a lot of walking so did. The BFG I would give that 5 stars to that!!!

Hello! What a whoopsey-splunkers review! Thank you so much for letting us know that you enjoyed your trip to see the show. We think that The BFG is fab too - we love the puppets and the colourful set. The cast will be thrilled to hear that you had a good time - I'll make sure that they get to read this review. Thanks again! From Helen & everyone at the Octagon!

First trip back to the Octagon since it's refurb and first impressions were very good. Although the road outside is closed for repaving for pedestrianisation, there was a volunteer marshalling you round the back. We went to the first floor bar for pre theatre drinks and then ordered the interval drinks separately.

After the first half of the performance I found that our drinks weren't on the interval drinks table, so had to queue with everyone else. We were number 11 of 11, so it's not like there were many drinks to mess up. When I got to the bar the server apologised and poured our drinks but, without asking, poured my bottle into the glass. He appeared to be in a hurry and some of the beer was left in the bottle.

After the show, my partner needed to go to the toilet but when we discovered that the downstairs ladies was closed and only the accessible toilet was available, she wasn't allowed back upstairs to the toilet up there.

All in all, a good visit, let down by these two incidents. The theatre itself is lovely and it won't stop us going back.

What a shame. Went to see their latest production which was good and had a nice meal in the restaurant first. Parked at the adjacent car park as their is no free car parking nearby until after 6.Before the renovations you could have your car park ticket validated at the theatre and pay a discounted £2 now over £4 paid direct to NCP. We had £36 tickets for the front row as one of our party cannot manage stairs. We were frozen as the new air-conditioning was blowing directly on to us. We were told that it couldn't be adjusted as climatically controlled. We were offered different seats .Very few people in the theatre as either it was a socially distanced performance or people still nervous or maybe not prepared to pay city prices. At least we could hear on the front row as previously we had problems. Hope they have got the acoustics right now. Hard to say the renovations have made it better as it is just a maze of corridors now and although hand rails the steps going down do not align with row of seats so you have to be careful you don't trip. Doubt we will be going again as the local amateur groups provide a much better atmosphere and in some ways easier access etc.

Hello, thank you for your comment and we glad you enjoyed the play and your meal. The NCP car park is run separately from the Octagon and we have no control over the prices in the car park- we are speaking to the team there to try and restore the validation to help improve our visitor experience. We apologise for the coldness you found in the theatre - the system is still new and we are continuing to work with our contractors to make improvements - we do everything we can to improve the comfort of our audiences and we are so sorry you had a disappointing experience. We hope you will visit us again in the future.

The newly refurbished theatre has varying leg room. The extremely uncomfortable seats - I’m 5’5””- are not sold as restricted leg room.
I have repeatedly asked for a response since we went September 2021 but nothing has been done so far to make sure all seats are equal

The Bolon Octagon no matter what is on is a magical place.
The actors and actresses put 100% into all performances.
It is a very civillized place to be, the location is directly next door to a multistorey car park.
Drink proces are not all that bad at the interval.
I always enjoy going to the octagon Bolton

Not only a fantastic place for theatre shows; the octagon offers great theatre classes for youngsters. My daughter has attended for a number of years and is always welcomed and cared for by the wonderful staff.

The venue is very small but very compact, you can have the actors standing right next to you it;s that small. It is nowhere near as good as Manchester but it is ok if you want to see a small production.

Went to see "And did those feet" at the Stadium of Bolton by the cast of the Octagon - absolutely fantastic !!
A tough venue to play (while the Octagon is being refurbished) but they did a great job - Poignant just now as a central theme is the aftermath of the first world war and how the town football team's success in 1923 (the white horse final) helped heal some of the wounds from the family's that were left and look to the future .. Great job !!!!!!!! - Very well done !
