Housing one of the UK's best Egyptology collections outside London, the museum also contains an interesting exhibit on Bolton life and Bolton people. You will see, for example, the only existing spinning mule actually made by Samuel Crompton and artefacts connected with Nat Lofthouse. The art gallery is pretty good, too, with works by the likes of Roger Fry, Vanessa... More

The museum is situated in Bolton town centre over the road from the Octagon Theatre which is good to go for a spot of lunch, My granddaughter enjoyed the Aquarium and the Libary she is a little young to appreciate anything else just yet. But it is great for older children too.

Took my 20 month old here as its free and to be honest it was ok for what it was. It is tiny so don't expect a sea life version here but for a toddler it just right. I felt some of the tanks were a bit small for the size fishes in there and the water looked cloudy to.

During the school holidays every Tuesday and Thursday at 1pm we have fish feeds, which is fun and educational for children and adults. We hope to see you both again. Kind regards Maureen More

An old favourite where we have been taking our children and grandchildren for years. During our recent visit lots of activities where taking place and the children could join in bringing the museum alive..

I took my little boy to see the aquarium. I swear it had the same fish as when I was a little girl. I was disappointed that the upstairs was Closed where all the animals were and instead were squashed into a room no bigger than a medium sized bedroom. I wonder if this was due to renovation. I would... More
