For something different decided to go on the Manchester Ship Canal cruise. It is a 6 hour cruise with commentary along the way highlighting place and history of interest. There are snacks available on board. Boat used is one of the Mersey Ferries. Once at the other end there may be time to stroll araound or it's straight onto the... More

Six hours on the Canal from Salford Quays to Liverpool, in comfort, warm sunshine, no smoking, decent bacon butties and a well informed commentary. What more could you ask for? You can bring your own food and drink and many people do, to make a picnic of it. This is a must do for adults. We also visited the U-boat... More

After a delayed start due to a bridge and then a lock gate not opening the trip was superb. Good commentary but the mic kept breaking up. Great journey seeing the length of the canal, seeing bird life and the industrial history . Great view of the Liverpool city horizon. Fully recommend the trip and try the scouse for lunch... More

We did the ship canal cruise from Salford quays to Liverpool on Easter Saturday. The cruise is well run and there is a commentary all the way along the canal pointing out interesting sites and giving you the latest information about changes that are happening all along the canal. You can buy hot and cold food on board or take... More

The Manchester Ship Canal is a 36-mile-long (58 km) inland waterway in the North West of England linking Manchester to the Irish Sea. Several sets of locks lift vessels about 60 feet (18 m) up to Manchester. One can cruise (approximately six hours) along this canal. The cruise takes in a spectacular scenery and marvel at the historic buildings, industrial... More

It's worth a visit to the Manchester Ship canal and take in the history of this great piece of waterway. Whether you do it by boat or not it's a very interesting place.

Despite showery weather we two and a couple of friends had a ball here. We went from Salford to Liverpool, which the other two agreed might be more picturesque than vice-versa which they had experienced previously. Good and fascinating live commentary. Good food, drink and toilets. And after an hour and a half to roam round the Albert Dock, including... More

On departure it was evident that most passengers were over 60 years of age. The commentary (by a qualified badge holder we were told) was excellent , some of the passengers complained that that could not hear-she apologised added that that was nothing she could do about that. The ship was actually a ferry, not a ship designed for a... More

I recently travelled as part of a group along the canal from Salford Quays to Liverpool. It takes 6 hours to travel the 35 miles but it was most relaxing and very interesting. A Blue Badge guide gives a running commentary, explaining the history of locks/bridges/canalside factories/docks/buildings. And if she didn't know the answer to a question that was put... More
