About
Celebrating their 30th birthday, Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom has taken a huge step and relaunched as Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World. With over 100 species of animals, 15 animatronic dinosaurs and activities taking place all day Hoo Zoo really is a fun day out whatever the age. Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World launched back in 1991 as Hoo Farm Country Park and over the past 30 years has become one of the midlands premier attractions - even winning National Farm Park of the year along the way. In 2004 the farm became a licensed zoo and hasn’t looked back. Now the zoo is home to not just sheep, cows, pigs and horses but other zoo favourites such as Meerkats, Lemurs, Servals, Caracal and even Wolves. Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World is extremely passionate about conservation with a strong message throughout the zoo of conservation through education. This is put across through the fun informative meet and greets that take place but also the renowned animal experiences (advanced booking essential).

We had the best day out! We have been a few times before, but my partner and I came on bank holiday Monday for the full day keeper experience - a voucher for my birthday this year we needed to use up. We got about 4.5 hours with all the different animals and also had lunch included. We particularly enjoyed the personalisation and intimacy of this experience with it just being us and our keeper Chris, who was a super ambassador for Hoo Zoo. We had just the right amount of time with each animal and got to meet a very wide variety of creatures across the day. Some got tickles, some got fed and some were happy jumping all over us; we weren't bored at any point! Favourites were definitely the hyper lemurs, the cheeky meerkats and the adorable Consuela the skunk <3 Chris was a book of knowledge and knew the back story of every single animal we had the chance to meet. Calm at all times and he also really helped to put us (or rather, me!) at ease with some of the non-4-legged more intimidating characters. Felt completely safe and knew what to expect in each enclosure throughout. We absolutely recommend doing an experience when visiting Hoo Zoo to get the most out of the day and appreciated the value of what we got from this encounter. It did cost a lot, but we met so many critters it was definitely worth it. Thanks Hoo; we absolutely loved it and will be back!

We visited this place a couple of weeks ago, and it was lovely. We didn’t go in the dinosaur area but the animals were well cared for and my Husband loved feeding the animals on behalf of our 16 month old daughter! The place is a lot bigger than I expected it to be, which is brilliant as there was so much to see.

However I felt prices inside were quite steep, but after not being out much since lockdown it’s hard to tell if this is on par with other places and also I can understand places need to claw back money from being closed.

I felt that once inside social distancing wasn’t that good. It is all outdoors so I understand that it is safer outdoors than indoors, but it did feel like a free for all and even in the shops there didn’t seem to be any restrictions on numbers allowed inside at any one time (the general standards such as hand sanitiser, hand washing facilities and partitions on counters were good though). A lot of this though is not necessarily the fault of Hoo Zoo, but keeping our distance is everyone’s responsibility (and it was evident that some people followed this).

Parking was ridiculous in my view. We couldn’t even get to the car park it was so busy, and we had to park like many others on the raised verge at the side of a one track road (we were lucky that it looked like someone had not long left when we got there). In times of restrictions and essential pre booking I just felt something needed to be in place to help with this, such as maybe a time limit inside, but I do understand that this is not easy to enforce.

I will say it hasn’t put me off. The staff were friendly and the place was well kept, facilities were clean and we had a lovely time.

Hi Rebecca, Thank you for visiting and your constructive review, I do appreciate all the points you've raised and will look into them to see where we can improve. We do have car parkers on duty on busy weekends (such as this one) and do have an overflow car park that you'd have driven past with space for about 120 cars. I think you may have missed this. I'm pleased to hear that you'd still choose to visit in the future. Will

My husband and I booked a badger experience a good year and a half ago but due to Covid were unable to attend, however Hoo Zoo still honoured the booking and we re-booked for the evening of 11/09/2021.

We were allowed entry to the zoo earlier in the day so got to see all the non-nocturnal animals as well as some that were nocturnal (raccoons, etc). I would really recommend a visit to the zoo even if you don’t have an animal experience booked. It’s a brilliant day out.

We returned later in the day and were met by our guide (sorry I don’t know your name but she was also on admissions that day). Her knowledge of all animals, including the badgers and their family hierarchy, was incredible. Such a fantastic ability to deal with persons of all ages as we had both adults and children in our party and we were all included all of the time.

The badgers are wild and so a sighting was not guaranteed however our guide strategically placed food around the area near the hide so if the badgers did wish to visit us, they would be suitably rewarded.

This tactic worked brilliantly for us. We were VERY close to wild badgers who chose to visit on this occasion. It was an incredible experience that seemed to be to educate rather than to make money for the zoo.

The zoo seem to have a healthy respect for wild animals (badgers, hedgehogs, birds etc) as areas of the estate are left wild purposefully.

A brilliant day and evening out that we won’t forget. Well done Hoo Zoo!

Lemur, Serval and Meerkat Experience - this was such a great experience. The keepers were well organised and had lots of knowledge to share regarding all of the animals. We had a small group of people to one keeper which worked well and ensured everyone had plenty of time to enjoy the experience feeding and stroking the animals, as well as asking questions. Keeper made sure everyone was comfortable and fully explained how it would work before we entered the enclosures. Enjoyed getting so close to the animals and hand feeding them. You're welcome to take lots of pictures and videos which was great. The cost of the experience also includes entrance to the rest of the zoo so you can really make a day of it and see all of the animals. Our group had 6 people with a variety of ages and the experience was enjoyed by all. Great opportunity to get close to some wonderful animals!

A wonderful day out with plenty of animals to see and interact with! It seems that they have managed to fit something for everyone in the modest space that the zoo occupies- including a substantial and impressive Dinosaur area! Plenty of veggie and vegan food options, good social distancing, keepers who show plenty of care for the animals, and thankfully the overflow parking wasn't too far from the park.

We paid for the Raccoon experience with the help of a voucher, making it extremely affordable! We hand fed raccoon dogs, handled a beautiful skunk, and met Little Bear, the Raccoon.

We will be returning to hopefully get an experience with the Foxes, as we unfortunately booked our Raccoon experience at the same time as the only fox feeding. We will also aim for a weekend, as the feeding times and other experiences are more limited on weekdays.

What an amazing experience the Keeper for the Day was! I would recommend it to anyone interested in animals or looking for something unusual as a birthday gift. I was initially disappointed as I had hoped to encounter the binturong. The zoo emailed the day before to say this wouldn't be possible and mentioned an earlier email stating the binturong was no longer suited to encounters, I have no record of an earlier email but accept that they tried to communicate with me. As it turned out, there was no need for disappointment as the day was filled with encounters with equally wonderful animals. Our keeper for the day, Chris, was a truly great guide - knowledgeable, funny, in tune with the individual animal's needs and responsive to our group. Although the experience was booked for 2, he made every effort to include all 5 of our party whenever possible. Our day included 14 animal encounters in total, ranging from the adorable raccoon to the awe-inspiring and surprisingly friendly cervals. Despite fitting in such an array of experiences, at no time did we feel rushed and Chris seemed to genuinely enjoy sharing his expertise and passion for animals with us. Lunch even included a bonus animal (one of the farm cats) joining us for a nap in my rucksack! A truly memorable day for all of us and one that reinforces how important it is to care for and conserve our planet's precious wildlife.

I purchased an experience at hoo zoo for my boyfriend’s bday - The carnivore experience was amazing, lasted approx 1hr 20 and spent a good amount of time with each animal (4 animals in total) and the keeper who showed us round was very friendly and knowledgeable. Sadly I can’t remember her name but she had short white/blonde hair :) - the foxes were the highlight of our experience!!
The zoo itself was a decent size with a lot of good sized enclosures. There was a lot of cats and birds but we still really enjoyed our time.
The wolf was having its enclosure gardened so Unfortunately this wasn’t possible to see.
We enjoyed the feeding options for the selected animals like sheep & goats etc as it mixed things up a bit and allowed us to feel included in the zoo without the experience even taking place yet.
Prices for animal feed as well as cafe prices are all well priced.

Would recommend to anyone of any age but also had lots of play areas / facilities for children and families.

My daughter and I went to Hoo Zoo a few days ago. We had purchased the meerkat experience that included entry to the Zoo. We had a terrific time, the experience was well managed and led by a keeper with knowledge and enthusiasm. We had the opportunity to meet and feed the zoos 3 groups of meerkats. The meerkats are happy to climb up on you to enjoy a meal of fruit and mealworms, it is mucky but great fun, just don’t wear your smartest trousers.
The rest of the zoo is very enjoyable with a wide range of animals. Of particular note are the range of cats, the binturongs and the lemurs with their new babies. You can buy feed to feed some of the animals for a reasonable price but only the sheep were really interested, even the goats refused it.
The only let down for the whole day was the very poor quality of the food in the cafe, beyond that I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

We visited in June with a normal ticket and loved it, whilst we were there we saw some people on experience days and thought they looked good, so we returned in October for the meetcat, lemur and serval experience. It’s not a huge zoo, but you don’t pay huge prices either so it’s perfect for a family day out, especially with younger children. We thoroughly enjoyed both our visits, however we would recommend booking an experience if you can. Very informative staff and such cute animals. We would definitely recommend and we will be returning x

The day at the zoo was really great. The day we went (Tuesday) was a mid week day out of the school holidays and so the parks was not packed, this meant that we could spend as long as we liked ar each animal enclosure. The zoo does not have the large lion or elephant type animals; however, it makes up for this with its good range of cuute cat / furry mammel type animals. We had an experience booked to meet 4 different animals, a snake, an owl, foxes and a Serval cat. WOW, the experience was great. The animals were amazing and I cannot recommend this experience enough. The animal handler which took us to each animal was friendly and knowledgeable about each animal. As entry to the zoo was included in the experience cost we spent the whole day at the zoo and loved it. The only doenside was the lack of food options at the cafe for myself as I an gluten intolerant. I had to settle for a portion of chips, a bit restricting but ok. All in all a grand day out.
