This is a railway preservation society that I have seen in its very early days. I was involved in the railway from the mid nineties until about 2005. Since then the railway has come on in leaps and bounds and every time I visit the place, there is always something new or different there. I usually visit the S&C Railway two to three times a year and I hear the comments of other people when I am there. The usual complaint is: there is not much else to do when you have been on the train. (This is not my comment). However, on some of the days that I have visited, it would seem as though it lacked some other form of attraction to give it a better appeal to the wider spectrum of client that are not aware of all the work that goes on behind the running of the place, although, I think that once the line arrives to Cricklade, the S&C Railway will have a whole new dimension, And when it has its two terminuses at the Swindon and Cricklade ends of the line, then it will be on par with any other preservation society in Britain. The Swindon & Cricklade Railway is a great place to visit if you are in the area and if you remember that it is a railway still under construction,, you will be able to see or imagine all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. And if you are even luckier, maybe some of those comments that I have mentioned above have already been rectified but if not, there are usually some friendly members that are always glad to hear your comments, good or bad, as long as they are constructive. Don’t just read this comment, vist the S&CR for yourselves and enjoy your day morning/afternoon out.

Went to the New Year Steam Day. Always been heritage railway fan. Small line but absolutely outstanding. A hidden gem. Lovely locos, souvenirs, relics sheds etc something for everyone young and old. My tiny grand daughter Lara loved the experience especially ride on train and excellent burger lunch. Will deffo go again.

We had a great time, the whole family enjoyed the Santa special, the staff were very friendly and a lot of effort and time had gone into making it a great experience for the children and adults too. Will be going again next year, well done to all involved.
