Spotted this church as we were wandering around this part of town and what a beautiful church it is.
In a city that has some amazing churches and a stunning cathedral this was yet another superb piece of history and a beautiful piece of architecture.
200 years old having been constructed in 1819 the church has a Medievil look to me,didn't have time to check out the interior but I was suitably impressed to take a few photographs of the beautiful exterior from afar.
A wonderful looking church, most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area and easy to find on Church Lane Darley Abbey Drive.

I would highly recommend St Matthews Church in Darley Abbey. The church is set in such a beautiful scenic area and people work very hard to keep it looking so lovely and beautiful. The members of the church are really lovely and kind. I would suggest this church to anyone wanting any sort of service or somewhere to prayer and gather your thoughts.

Thomas Evans was the founder of the Industrial complex within Darley Abbey and it was his son Walter who donated money for the building of a church. The church was completed and consecrated in 1819. Check out the graves of the Evans family (those not interred in the crypt) and notice how their graves point in the direction of the Mill. Also look out for the numerous named tiles dotted around the Church, these are of workers who died in the Mill.

I was in Derby to help my ill mother in law. Since I've always gone to Christmas Midnight service in the States, I thought I'd go here. It is the church my family goes to in Derby, also it's just down the road. I waited till 11:00 pm , got dressed in my best stuff, and went. The paster did not speak to me, he was still arranging the songs on the wall. There was no music playing, low lights or any sign of the importance of the evening. I sat and watched children run around, people laughing and talking on their phones...this in the sanctuary. I was hurt that the attitude was so casual on such an important night. I wanted to hear traditional music, but none was playing. I sat for about ten minutes, then realized I was in the wrong place...I could worship God on my own at home. Also, no one spoke to me...maybe because I was a single female on my own...the fur coat might have been over the top, too! I did go back this last Christmas with Mum, but only heard secular Christmas music, and no real emphasis on Jesus and his birth. Still disappointed, will not go back.
