Well laid out course and worth a game

This is a municipal course and feels like it. The course was a good layout and the overall condition was good. I felt the greens were probably not cut every day as they felt quite woolly. Clubhouse is a bit limited and a lot scruffy but the welcome cannot be faulted. Do not though, the bar seems to close about 3pm so don't expect a convivial pint or two at the bar afterwards. The course itself is very physical, consisting of many uphill stretches. Not for the physically challenged but well worth a game.

Disappointed
Jun 2018 • Friends
The course and scenery were beautiful, that’s before I start and the only positive I have.

I organise courses for a golf society, when I confirmed our booking on the phone I always cover for people who don’t confirm they are coming, so I booked for 24 players with 6 tee times, as I do at every other course in the country that we play.

It transpired that 10 players actually turned up and as the golf and catering side of things are run by separate companies we paid for the food separately. At the point where we paid for the food we were informed that as we had booked for 24 then we had to pay for 24,which we had to do.

Consequently it cost us personally to pay for the food, what I was told was they had bought the food in specially, so why do they offer catering when they don’t have food available?

I am absolutely disgusted with the business etiquette, I was never informed that if you boooked a number of tee times with food then you have to pay for the food, no matter how many arrive and this is so out of the usual I never thought to ask.

Personally, I would not recommend any golf societies to visit, I won’t be going again and I am going to complain to Derby Council who have the operating licence.

Great Value for Money
Feb 2018 • Friends
While the course can get a bit messy in winter (they do their absolute best to keep it open) for ~£10 you can't really argue.

The greens are OK considering it's part of a park. The course offers some pretty outstanding views with holes that vary in difficulty from the drivable 18th to the long uphill par 5. The only downside is that the course does sit in a park so walkers (who don't understand how dangerous the course is) can find their way onto the course without much to tell them it's there.

Is it Augsta? No, but you can't play Augusta in December for a tenner.

A Decent Course with Potential
Mar 2016 • Business
Allestree estate falls into the same category as many formerly great estates and parks, namely they're too important to demolish, too large to run independently yet too unmanageable for anyone who doesn't have ownership of them. So they become a sort of stodgy, uninspiring place with glimpses of past glories. There are several places like this in this part of the world. The golf course offers spectacular views (as the picnickers will attest) and is as hilly as you would expect in this region. On the positive side, you won't be bothered by over-zealous course managers. On the minus side, you'll potentially feel a little abandoned and unloved by the staff. Recommended as a casual day's golfing in a beautiful

Poor attitude to paying players
Jul 2016 • Friends
Played this morning and teed off and caught up with a comp on the 3 hole. The comp had backed up to approx 12 players over 2 holes. Contacted the shop and politely asked the LSD who took our £17.50 each if we could get a buy or credit as we were on duty at 12.00 and getting our tee at 9.00am

He Wasn't interested to help and didn't care about our situation. Won't play there again as it seems it's all about the money and not interested in the players or returning visitors which is a shame. I will always have courses to play let's hope allestree always has visitors who will choose to play there but at this rate I doubt it.

Good luck

Decent course and great greens
Oct 2015 • Family
Went here with my 14 yr old son for his first round of proper golf. £10 for me and £6 for him during the day. Quite quiet when we turned up at 12.30. No wait at the first tee. Lovely fairways, brutal rough at times to make you try even harder to stay on the fairway - but I still lost several balls - and found 3 also. Staff were decent - scenery was spectacular and there was no snobby staff getting aerated over dress code - jeans and trainers for my son were fine. Free car park was a bonus

Not just for Golf....
Feb 2015 • Friends
This wonderful open space with a lake and woods is definitely worth a visit. It was a crisp, sunny winter's day and an ideal place to go for a walk with friends and the dogs. Allestree Park Golf Club, apart from golf, is great place for ramblers and dog walkers. Plenty of parking and a café. Not sure of the opening times, today the café was closed, looked like it was having some work done. Just watch out for the occasional golfer and a few flying balls ! Go and have a look and a walk around.

Always a Welcome Awaits You
Oct 2014 • Couples
A good course that provides a challenge for both the hacker and the accomplished golfer. Unfortunately the changing rooms and the course maintenance is a bit hit and miss. The local council own and operate the course and have yet to grasp the reality that reduction in course maintenance only serves to put golfers off. Even given the problems created by the Council a warm welcome awaits visitors to the course and the club. I understand applications by new members are always welcome.

Allestree Park Golf Club
Oct 2014 • Solo
Municipal pay and play golf course situated in Allestree Park with great view's over the surrounding area. Course is quite hilly, fairways are well kept, greens are not too bad but bunkers are just sand pits, they need attention. Golf shop is quite small with a limited range of goods. There is a cafe on site but be aware that it is not open every day and there is on site parking available. The other problem with this course is the "ramblers" and "dog walkers" who just seem to wander about the course instead of keeping to the designated paths.
