Great fun (if you class being terrified as fun lol)
Had a 2 hour session so we did 4 activities...abseiling, climbing, aerial assault course and the cave. Instructor was great and looked after us well. It’s a bit chilly in there so make sure you are wearing a warm layer in the colder months. Defo recommend for thrill seekers or for something a bit different

Fantastic Family Day Out

Wow! Just finished a parent and child session and we were blown away. Great instructors. Chris was patient and calm and gave our little boy the confidence to climb to the top of the wall. Amazing for the adults too. Definitely worth a visit. We will be back.

We went here after a day and a half at Alton Towers and boy are we glad we did!

None of us had done anything like this before, and we were immediately made at ease upon entrance.

We were given harnesses and helmets to put on and were given instructions on how to be both anchors for our children (who did the climbing) and how to feed them rope for their climb, and the children (13 and 11) were given instructions on how to get the ropes tied and ready to climb.

After a couple of trips up the wall under supervision, the children were left to explore the various walls with various degrees of difficulty, ending up on a high-rise obstacle course close to the ceiling of the concerted church.

We all really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone.

We arrived at Alter Rock Climbing Centre with no rock climbing experience at all, however after we filled in paperwork the staff were happy to help us with anything from putting on our harnesses and helmets to tying knots on our belts. We had an unforgettable time here, I would definitely come back again!! I would highly recommend!!!

brilliant family and community climbing centre

We go here all the time because it's brilliant. Climbing , bouldering and traversing at all levels of difficulty from complete beginner to expert. Never too busy, decent coffee, unobtrusive music and friendly staff. best thing is the atmosphere - everyone is there to climb and help others climb

We were all quite apprehensive and we weren’t sure what to expect although Holly was fantastic with us she made our experience a fantastic one! As she put us at ease and gave us the confidence to to do all the activities that were on offer, which made our visit a fab one! Thank you Holly you’re a star 🌟

My daughter (aged 11) has always wanted to try rock climbing and so I bought one of Alter Rocks Holiday Havoc vouchers during summer break which allows you to drop off kids asoften as they want during the holidays to enjoy activities. The car park at the rear isn't the best but had ample parking on the day. A sign in the car park directing you to the entrance which is round the side would be good as we tried both rear doors before discovering the way in. Once inside, I had to explain 3 times to the person behind the desk (who said they were a work experience student, also hard of hearing) that we had bought a voucher online and were here for our first session. A member of staff explained that I would need to fill in some paperwork whilst a lady would get my daughter into a harness. By the time I had filled out and signed a form, the lady had disappeared with my daughter. I wandered round the entire ground floor before being told by someone that they'd probably headed upstairs.
Upstairs, I found a staff member watching 2 boys walk across planks suspended from the roof of the ex-church building. No attempt was made to encourage my daughter, who was nervous about heights, to have a go as the staff member turned her back on her and ignored her for 5 minutes. When asked if my daughter could have a go at something else the staff member replied that she couldn't leave the 2 boys. After a few more minutes it was suggested we could go back downstairs and ask if anyone else could assist us in trying a climbing wall.Thank goodness we then met Darwen, a lovely man, who finally made us feel welcome. He showed us how to climb as a parent/child team.
After the first climbing session, my daughter unfortunately hurt herself playing football and suffered an injury which meant she couldn't go rock climbing again. I rang Alter Rock to ask if I could get a full/part refund on the voucher I'd bought and was told the management would call me back to discuss a refund. Nobody bothered to call.
Overall, the facilities were fine but customer service was shocking and so I would not recommend this place to anyone. If it wasn't for Darwen I'd probably have given the place one star.

Great children’s party, great staff.
Nov 2018 • Friends
My son had his 10th birthday party here which was a big hit. Very friendly and relaxed, all the children had fun. (Have had a previous climbing party elsewhere that felt like a fairly strict lesson and was not nearly so enjoyable.)
Instructor was great, encouraged the adults to join in too which we loved!
Staff are happy for the eating area to be used for party food etc. Offered to provide whatever was needed.
All in all a great afternoon with fab fun staff resulting in happy children. Would recommend.

Brought my Brownies here for the evening and they had an amazing time. The girls had the opportunity to try abseiling, bouldering, caving and the air walk in our session which is brilliant value for money. The two instructors we had were patient, friendly and funny which put the girls at ease when it came to conquering their fears especially when it was time for abseiling. We cannot praise you enough for an amazing time which the girls will never forget. Thank you!
