Walked from friends house at Frampton along canal from Fretherne Bridge to the bridge at St Mary's at the bottom of the village green. Saw plenty of feathered friends and lovely scenery along the Severn Valley floor. The walk back up the green was finished off with a pint at the Bell Inn. Weather was changeable as can be expected... On the advice of the Tourist Centre went down to Gloucester Docks on a cold and cloudy day. First impressions were disappointing but as I got further in along the canal and docks itself was impressed by the prolifer of huge warehouses all seemingly renovated sympathetically. Many were either apartments or offices but in keeping with the historic docks. It... More

We had a lovely walk along the start of this canal towards Sharpness. Perfect for a dog walk in any weather.

Bike ride from Sharpness Docks to outskirts of Gloucester. Very scenic and pass a number of interesting areas such as Slimbridge Bird sanctuary. The Canal is very wide as befitting a Ship Canal and has a fair amount of various craft navigating it which makes it very interesting. One drawback is the inconsistency in the walkway / cycling areas, it... More

We went on a boat trip from the waterways museum. It cost £5 for a 45 minute trip. The commentary was humorous and continuous. The trip was about the right length in time as the stretch of canal used was surrounded by ever changing scenery.

Lots of interesting sights, the boats of course, the bridges and the wildlife. Great way to see the countryside, the local villages and pubs.

We were lucky to be able to get a trip on the Glevum canal boat, having had a lunch at the Barge Restaurant, It was a leisurely cruise and the operator was very informative about the local area and history,

As a local I grew around this Canal. My father worked for the company responsible for the maintenance of the Canal and I spent 100's of hours travelling the canal, especially along it during school holidays. Nowadays, it is possible hire boats for trips for various length cruise up and down the canal. These are e trembly interesting, with crew... More
