Excellent military museum

Gloucester doesn't have many open and good museums at the moment. So this certainly tops the bill.Well set out museum which gives a comprehensive history of the regiments. It fronts on to the what's area.

We visited here on our last day in Gloucester before catching the train home - I wish we'd allowed more time. We were welcomed by a volunteer called Len who then showed us around the museum. Len was a fountain of knowledge, friendly, approachable, and happy to answer all our questions. We spent about an hour and a half walking round in total but it's so interesting we could have doubled this. It's a lovely museum which is run on donations and relies on volunteers - it really would be a shame to see it go and would therefore encourage everyone to visit.

Very absorbing so much detail in 2 floors.

A lots of well displayed information of the regiments since forming, and their many honours. Lots about the many campaigns right through Korea (70th anniversary of Imjin) so of interest even if not following the Glosters. Great variety of quality items in the shop and excellent cafe overlooking the Docks.

Because of COVID the museum is closed, but the shop is open. It's a pleasant place to sit outside by the docks with coffee and cake!

We took a private tour with other family members, there's no guide but we were able to freely walk around. Having been a long time ago was impressed with the layout and exhibits there now. Having family who served with the Gloucesters in both world wars we found it extremely informative and interesting. We had the afternoon tea in the gazebo, which was really good. Well worth the visit and will be returning.

You won't be disappointed, lots to see and learn and discuss with your family or friends, even my three grandsons asked questions so it must have stirred their imagination.
