Not great for people that don't want to share their space with damp dogs
Oct 2021
Love the pub, love the beer, love the home made pizzas, friendly service...but stinks of dog!!!

Fine if you're outside. Nothing worse than the smell of wet dog fur on a rainy evening, not to mention dogs barking and other people's animals licking my legs.

If it wasn't for all the dog people, it would be my favourite pub in Harrogate. As it stands, I probably won't go again.

old blokes real ale pub reimagined
Mar 2018 • Friends
I have always liked this pub as a genuine quiet honest place but it was rather dyed in the wool. Last time I went it was completely different. Without destroying the atmosphere the new owners have given the place a wonderful update. It is a great place for a good pint and it is not fool of estate agents!

Warm and welcoming for four legs, as well as two!

Now just called The Tap. Really nice atmosphere when we walked in. Candles and subtle lighting. Handy for the dog friendly Travel Lodge across the road. Lots of board games.
Limited food but cleverly done. Excellent choice of reasonably priced, good beers.

Came to the tap with family for New year eve, and hired out the back area.

Dale look after us and was a great guy and made are night with great cocktails and awesome service.

Atmosphere of the pub is really good and very welcoming.

Food is mostly bar snacks and pizza but they are all homemade. Great quality

Highly recommend

Thanks for looking after us

Called in for drinks on Ney Year’s Eve as staying at Travelodge across road. Really nice pub, friendly staff, reasonable prices.

Quaint little pub
Nov 2017 • Couples
Popped in her whilst staying in the Travelodge opposite. Pub has a good selection of beers and gins! Really enjoyed the quirky games room at the back. They offer good snack/bar food including a very tasty 10" pizza for £6

Great little pub
Nov 2017 • Friends
Have read that this pub has had a refurb recently. Not being from the area, can’t comment on the improvement but this is definitely how a make over should be done.

Lovely little pub, friendly staff & a nice atmosphere. Actually gutted that we didn’t get to spend more time there.

Good ideas with takeaway pizzas (not amazing but good value at £7) and beers.

Would recommend for anyone visiting; especially staying at the Travelodge opposite - and Midnight openings on the weekend (didn’t see it advertised).

New decor, clean and friendly
Nov 2017 • Couples
Definitely handy if staying at the Travelodge opposite and appears to be completely renovated inside. Everywhere clean and tidy and plenty of choice for real ales. The barman was very friendly and helpful with drink suggestions and allowing a sample of beer to try before buying. We sat in the lounge area which, would have been even better had a fire been burning in such a cold night. The bar side was busier. Lots of nuts, pork scratchings and similar things available in measured cups if you get the munchies.

This pub has been completely revamped
Oct 2017 • Friends
When I read previous reviews about the miserable landlord, it certainly took me back to my first visit here when it was a truly awful pub.

It is important to note however, that this pub has had an extensive revamp and is now called the Tap on Tower Street.

Of course there is no point in having a revamp unless you achieve improvement, so how successful has it been?
The decor is now very smart and creates a couple of separate bars with eating areas.
There is now a very good range of cask ales and other beers etc.
The people behind the bar when we visited were very friendly and efficient. I don't know of the lad is the new landlord, but if he is, I'm sure he will do well.
Really nice pub.
