Get what you pay for
Aug 2021
The place provides a cheap round and the course is in decent condition for how much you pay. The holes are fairly unimaginative (think very straight with minimal obstacles). Greens and fairways are alright and you certainly cannot grumble with the price of a round.

Well kept green
Aug 2020 • Friends
You need to book to guarantee a round of golf as this course is busy. Well kept greens with good signage as to which way to go. Light refreshments are available. Also has a driving range

Golf for all in times of Covid!
May 2020
When the return to golf was announced, myself and a friend were understandably keen for a game! However, not being a member of a club meant that opportunities were virtually nonexistent at many locations.
Having played Spofforth a handful of times before I thought it was worth having a look at their website.
Wow, the whole site seems to have been revamped and is really up to speed regarding the current Covid rules and restrictions.
Tee times can be reserved online (as I did) or by phone, and instructions of how to proceed upon arrival at the course, and what facilities are available couldn’t be clearer.
The course itself was in very good condition overall, with tee boxes well maintained, close mown fairways, and soft sand in bunkers too (no rakes of course) Some greens were a little bumpy and showing signs of maintenance spiking but considering the awful winter weather and then a long period of near drought conditions this is totally understandable.
Staff were friendly and helpful too, will certainly return ASAP 😊

Lovely golf course shame about the aggresive staff member who she accosted and accused two ladies in their seventies of sneaking yes sneaking past her just walking with their husbands playing golf who did pay for 36 holes but only played 18 we were told in no uncertain terms that we should have paid full price for all of us!!as we were visitors to your course it left t a very bad taste especially as no other club we have visited in the UK has this policy can well understand perhaps young people try and take mates and share clubs but we were ladies in our mid 70s on a lovely day walking with our husbands

Agree with previous comments, course pretty good particularly the back nine. However the website is MAD! No information about the course, green fees, opening times etc etc!!

Golf needs more courses like this
Sep 2018 • Friends
At a time when golf participation is waning, partly because it's viewed as a stuffy sport for white male tweed jacket wearers over 50, Spofforth is just what is needed. There is no pretentiousness or ego anywhere in sight. You just turn up and play golf. It's great value, there are no entry requirements beyond the basics of having your own set of clubs, and that makes it a perfect place for people beginning or just trying out the sport, young or old.

The course might not be vying to host tour events, but it's perfect for people starting out in golf. There are no major hazards like long carries over chasms or water to deter the beginner, but it's long and varied enough to challenge you to improve. Single figure handicappers can enjoy it too.

One thing to be aware of - you need to pay your green fee in cash. I don't know whether this is something the owners are planning to rectify, but it seems unusual in this day and age and could lead to lost business.

Disgraceful
Jul 2018 • Family
We have been playing on this course for the last 9 years on a Saturday, yesterday my 8 year old said can I come dad , I wasn't sure if he would enjoy it so we took him only to be advised that there's no 9 hole on a Saturday that a child can't just walk around with you even though I said well he can be my caddy .. no not allowed so had to pay for him aswell full adult price . In which yes my son didn't like it so we had to leave after a few holes I felt like the young girl who was on reception was very unhelpful and I think it's a disgrace I was charged full price for him. We won't be returning

Great course
Jun 2018 • Friends
Spofforth pay and play golf course is a lovely course, with well maintained fairways and greens. At £10 for 9 holes or £15 for 18 it’s great value for money.
1st nine is flatter and less demanding but still a good challenge, then the back 9 is harder, hilly and definitely more character.
And it also has a driving range to warm up before the main event.
Staff are very friendly and welcoming, plenty of parking.
Definitely worth a visit.
