- Nick J42 contributionsA unique experience, professionally carried out.We visited as a couple and did the guided trek. After ‘meeting’ several llamas and alpacas in the barn where we petted and were told all about the animals. We took part in a short trek with two other customers and two guides. The love and care for these animals shines through the whole operation. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and look forward to visiting again in the Spring.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 30, 2023
- Pete6 contributionsA great experience in a lovely locationWe had a 3 hour scenic farm trek for my wife's birthday, led by Charlotte. The pre-visit information was great and the venue, whilst remote, was easy to find following the directions given. We were welcomed warmly, and soon into the experience. Charlotte introduced us to several different llamas, explaining the differences, telling us about their backgrounds, quirks, behaviours and how they are looked after. Charlotte was interesting and informative and answered questions very well. We were matched to our trek llamas based on what type we wanted. Charlotte's choices for us were spot on. The trek was led very well, with opportunities to experience and bond with the llama, enjoy the beautiful countryside and ask more questions. We met lots of other llamas on the way and even had a complementary cuppa and flapjack on the sunshine to finish. We have done alpaca trekking elsewhere but at Nidderdale there was a real sense that the llama welfare came first which made the human experience that much better. We would highly recommend a visit and thank you Charlotte for being a great host and trek leader.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 13, 2024
- TravellingHardys27 contributionsBest Birthday TreatBooked the scenic farm trek for my husband’s birthday. The initial slot given by Suzanne didn’t quite work for us and she was quick to offer another that did, which was excellent customer service! We were the only ones there today, which was perfect for us as we got to have the experience exclusively. We had a brilliant introduction and met some llamas and alpacas. We learnt so much about the animals before being “matched” to our walking companions. My husband had Steve and I had Rowan and they were delightful. We then headed out on our walk which was a really nice length of time and distance. Everything was very relaxed, we weren’t rushed away at the end of the experience and enjoyed a snack and a hot drink watching some of the herd. We had the best time and would highly recommend going along to Nidderdale Llamas. The farm is so well kept and the animals are clearly exceptionally cared for. Our guide was so knowledgeable and made the our time there so worth it. We will definitely be back with our children for the junior experience.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 1, 2024
- Dianne F5 contributionsThe perfect day out for animal liversWe had a half day llama trek in the beautiful countryside. The day was perfect, with the Llamas selected to match each family member. The guides gave an informative and useful talk before we set off so we knew how to handle the Llamas and we learnt a little about their individual personalities. Everyone in the group had a fantastic day, including my husband who actually managed to stop thinking about work for once! I would really recommend this experience to anyone with a love of animals and the Yorkshire Dale's.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 29, 2024

- JelliNewcastle, United Kingdom3 contributionsMy Happy PlaceWe try to trek with the Nidderdale Llamas at least once a year and today we enjoyed a half day trek. I absolutely love trekking with the llamas. The stresses of everyday life just seem to melt away and I'm sure I'm smiling from ear to ear for the whole trek. The team at Nidderdale obviously love all of their animals and make the treks even more enjoyable. We're looking forward to returning later in the year for a full day trek. If you're an animal lover and want to try something a bit different you should definitely book an experience with the Nidderdale Llamas.Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 19, 2024
- Harold R1 contributionHarold enjoys the llama therapyWhen l booked my place on a half day trek with Suzanne, l explained that l would be treating the experience as a form of bereavement therapy, since my partner of 33 years , ERIC, had died 3 months previously. Then l asked her if any of the llamas was actually called Eric. Suzanne replied that No, none of them was called ERIC, but having heard my story, she was minded to give that name to one of the next babies to be born on the farm. When l arrived on the day, Suzanne greeted me warmly, and told me that she had named one of the latest babies born : Eric ! Naturally, l was overjoyed and shared the good news wirth the other members of my group. Eric was prancing about energetically in the field below, and turned out to be a cute white baby llama with a black face. So, thank you so much to Suzanne for such a kind, generous gesture. I then enjoyed a lovely trek with a beautiful, calm, gentle llama called LLOYD....we got on so well. Emilia and Charlotte were excellent leaders, and l can only agree with other contributors that this is a unique and unforgetable experience, that l can recommend to any one.Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten July 13, 2024

I booked a scenic trek as a present for my partner and paid for us to have a llama each on the trek. It last around 3 hours and was an amazing experience. After a really interesting and knowledgeable introduction from our guide Charlotte. We were paired up with the llamas and headed out on the trek. Charlotte was brilliant and made sure everyone was happy including the llamas. We both really enjoyed the trek and spending time with these brilliant and unique animals. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who loves animals and enjoys a good trek around some lovely countryside

My mum bought myself my sister a half day llama trekking voucher for Christmas, and we booked it for yesterday before my sister leaves the country for a few months to study.
We were greeted by Jess who gave us an incredibly thorough and fascinating overview of the llamas and alpacas at the farm. This was in my opinion incredibly important as we actually got to learn about these interesting animals rather than just jump straight into walking them. They have their own intricacies and traits that are important to understand before interacting with them! As an animal lover, getting to meet and interact with the llamas and alpacas prior to the walk was an amazing experience and taught me a lot about how best to interact with them in a way that is comfortable for them, too.
Before we even started trekking, I was amazed at just how extensive Jess’ knowledge of llamas and alpacas is and found this super inspiring! I’m interested in learning more.
We then went on our trek with our paired llamas (myself and my sister had one each). I was paired with a beautiful boy called Lloyd who I absolutely fell in love with and was just a joy to walk. The trek was amazing fun and it was incredibly funny to watch by passers’ reactions to seeing a group of llamas walking by 🤣
Molly also joined us on our trek along with Jess and was incredibly friendly and a joy to talk to.
The refreshments and lunch were incredibly generous and the perfect addition to the day.
I have to end this review by saying that it was heartwarming to meet a group of people who cared so much for the animals they look after and put their needs first. This isn’t just about taking selfies with cute, fluffy llamas (maybe a little), but also about understanding these beautiful animals and how they work so that we can better interact with them in a way that benefits both us and them.
A huge thank you particularly to Jess for the fantastic hosting and her relentless energy - I’m inspired and in awe by her knowledge of these animals.
A fantastic day, I couldn’t recommend this experience more.

Thank you so much for such a thorough review and lovely comments in relation to your time with us. Jess certainly loves her job and its great to read that you found her knowledge to be so inspiring. Its also lovely to see that you enjoyed the structure of your visit and learning all about our amazing animals as that part of the experience. This is so important to us , so we can then make sure both humans and animals are relaxed as possible before embarking on the trek together. We are all overwhelmed with your lovely comments in relation to our dedication to our animals, so nice to read this shone through, we do work hard to make sure all our llamas and alpacas have the very best and we are all grateful to be in a privileged position of caring for them! Thank you again and your recommendations are highly appreciated!

We loved our afternoon in the Yorkshire countryside doing llama trekking. We took the whole family, grandparents, parents and teenagers and everyone really enjoyed it. The animals were so friendly and enjoyable to walk with. The centre had worked hard to make things safe and secure.
It's an expensive activity, we had a voucher for a recent birthday, but it makes a great gift or special treat.

Decided to do something different for a day out and we couldn’t have chosen better. The young ladies were both so knowledgeable about the llamas and alpacas and knew all their names and close relatives and gave us such an insight into their nature . After a very covid safe introduction in groups we were matched with our trekking companions of Ned, Tony and Zac with an insight given into their ages and personalities. We set out on the trek with our llamas in the countryside surrounding the farm with stops so they could have a snack . Again along the way Jess pointed out our llamas brothers, sisters etc in the other fields and there was even a new baby born that morning. We couldn’t believe when we arrived back from the scenic trek that we had been there 3 hours as the time with these wonderful animals had flown by and I was sad to leave my llama Ned, he had been a perfect walking partner . I cannot recommend this experience enough and we will definitely return one day to hopefully do a longer trek.

First up, I am an animal lover and I would never support or patronise any animal experience or attraction if I had any doubts about the welfare of the animals. With that being said Nidderdale Llamas clearly and obviously take this seriously too and from everything I saw I was very impressed with how all of the animals were cared for and treated like personal pets by all the staff.
Truth be told I first saw Llamas on Youtube and found them both amusing and adorable and decided that I wanted to see them close up. I discovered a number of companies offering experiences but was most impressed with NL based on what they offered, my general feel / impression of the information and testimonials & my overall customer experience.
We enjoyed a wonderful memorable day in a beautiful picturesque location. The animals were all friendly, attentive and obviously very well looked after, the staff were brilliant and seemed to know the names and habits of every single Llama & Alpaca and could answer any questions.
I am really excited to be in the process of planning/booking another visit to NL and would recommend it to anybody. One of our family members has some accessibility requirements that we discussed with them and they have been completely accommodating and offered us an experience to suit.
Genuinely cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you Nidderdale Llamas.

Wow, what an experience. Just FIVE Stars from start to finish - including the communication beforehand and instructions for arrival. Our guides were so knowledgeable and experienced. Every consideration was thought of. Meeting the Llamas and Alpacas was taken at a steady pace, and then we were 'matched' I was matched with Billy, a beautiful Llama. We went off for a small walk, with our group, interspersed with snack stations for the animals to graze. I can only say that this was the highlight of our holiday, the animals were so well looked after, the site is in a wonderful setting, and we managed to also see a red kite and other wildlife. We will be back for a longer trek. This is a business concerned about animal welfare, rescuing animals, and giving guidance and advice on appropriate handling - it was very clear that this is the priority. The calmness of the staff, and animals and the therapeutic power of walking with these majestic creatures will stay with us for a very long time.

We had the best time- not the best weather -we ended up very wet and muddy and still laughing. Our host Jess was fantastic and so friendly. The Covid precautions were well taken care of. Our Llamas Trevor and Jack were well behaved and full of character. Highly recommend.

Just returned from a half day trek with Nidderdale Llamas. What a brilliant experience. Before the walk began we were given an in depth talk on Alpacas and Llamas and introduced to a few of each. We were then individually matched to a specific Llama depending on our personalities and theirs. My husband and I had a Llama each Kevin and Yogi. We stopped off half way round for a brew and biscuits, all carried by one of the Llamas and when we finished we enjoyed a picnic lunch (preordered at the time of booking.
It was do well worth the money and would defo recommend this to friends.

What a fantastic day! I booked the Half Day Trek for myself and my sisters. I had done an Alpaca walk a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. My sisters were curious about what to expect, but were really enthusiastic about trying something new at the same time. We were all looked after by Jess and Charlotte. You could tell how much they care about the Llamas and Alpacas. They really know their stuff. The animals feel completely at ease with them and it was lovely to see. I was paired up with Lloyd, who is a sweetheart. He’s a lot easier than walking my dog! It was really relaxing taking in the beautiful views and chatting with the girls, who were both on hand if you had any questions. Be prepared to walk up some hills, but they’re not too strenuous. I’m not the fittest person, but I could handle them all fine. You will stop for a break halfway for refreshments. After the walk, we also enjoyed a picnic lunch back at the farm. If you want to do something different, I highly recommend booking this experience. My sisters and I absolutely loved it. Truly a soothing tonic for the soul. We would book again in a heartbreak. Thank you!

Thank you for such lovely positive comments! We are really grateful for your review and so pleased you enjoyed your trek with us during the Summer. Lloyd is a gentle sole, it made us giggle that he was easier to handle than your dog! Lovely to read that you found the experience relaxing and a tonic for the sole, we are now launching a therapy side to the centre, as llamas are just how you found Lloyd to be, truly therapeutic! Thank you for recommending us!

Written July 5, 2019
Hi! We have various options with prices ranging from £38 to £130, dependent on distance you would like to trek and also age of the participants as we have age restrictions for children. You can view all our options with their descriptions and age limits via our website at Nidderdalellamas, if you click on 'Book a Trek' all the options are listed there along with their prices.
We offer 2 experience options for those who cannot walk the distance of the treks and 3 trek options all of varying length. We are pre-booking only and not a 'visitor farm' as everything we offer is an activity and as we take animal welfare as a top priority we control our booking system this way.
To check our availability you can either complete n enquiry form through the 'Book a Trek' page on the option of your choice, or call us on 01423 711052 or email us at via our contact us page. We will be happy to help you via any of these options!
Many Thanks, we hope this helps!

Hi there, are the animals at your attraction allowed to retire and if so, what happens when they are unable to complete the trails anymore please? I’d love to meet them but worry about the welfare of animals used for entertainment. Thanks.
Written March 25, 2019
Hi there, Thanks for your question. I'm pleased you have asked this as gives us an opportunity to explain our passion for our animals.
Llamas and alpacas are very interactive animals and if they have the personality where they enjoy being around people, they love to go out for treks. We have a large herd and can clearly assure you all our animals are part of our family and every single one is treated as an individual. We work with everyone of them on an individual basis every single day in terms of feeding, checking health and ensuring their well being. If we detect a health issue we act straight away and make a decision to either call our vet, or deal with minor ailments ourselves. We then would not allow that animal to take part in any form of trek or experience until we are 100% sure they fit and well again. We have a rota for our animals on the experiences and treks to ensure none of them are ever in a position that they wouldn't want to go out or engage with customers. We have strict limited places on each option and always put our animals welfare first. We therefore often refusing bookings as although we have more animals that could trek, we are very strict with their complete rest days, putting welfare above any revenue. In terms of retirement, each animal is an individual, there is not 'set age', we know them all so well that we make a judgement on how much they are asked to do and we start to reduce their work accordingly dependent on that animals presentation. If we feel they need to completely retire they still have a home with us here for life as we love them all as part of the family. Even though they may have retired from trekking, as they have been used to interaction they often want to take part in simply meeting people. If they were just left in a field, they would become very miserable and feel rejected, making them very unhappy. Each animal knows its name and each one is special to us. We also take in rescue llamas and nurture them back to health or re-build their confidence in humans. Some may remain with us or if not we may re-home but ONLY after checking out a new home and assessing the animals future with that home. We have been known to take llamas back too if their new owner's circumstances change as we like to ensure they have the best possible care. We have the highest welfare standards possible. All our animals are precious to us and valued as individuals not just an animals that attract people to us.
I hope this enables you to see how passionate we are about all our llamas and alpacas. if you do decide to book, I'm confident you will clearly see this when you are here spending time with us, as every member of our happy team loves each an every animal. You could also check us out on the series 'The Yorkshire Vet' - channel 5. Our vet is Julian Norton and we often appear on the programme when he is attending to some of our llamas.

Check out the different options available. The Interactive Experience is probably the best option for your mum, it’s a 40 minute walk on mostly flat ground.

Hi, Thank you for your enquiry. We offer mainly adult activities.
All children must be over 7yrs to be permitted on the farm, it is not suitable for young children and we can not accept babies on the farm. All children must be over 10yrs to do the first of our short treks and 12 yrs to do the 2 longer treks.
Our website gives full information relating the all our experience and trekking options under 'Book A Trek' tab. Please note we are a pre-booking activity only. Hope this helps!

I would like to visit the animals sometimes between 27 th-30 th december this year with a 17 and 11 year old kids. Can you let me know how far is nidderdale Llamas to harrogate town centre and how to get there ? If my daughter (17 year old) want to walk the llamas, how much will the charge be ? Do other family members get to walk along with her?
Thank you in advance for your reply.
Written November 1, 2016
Hi, The centre is 12 miles from Harrogate town centre, you need to travel either by taxi or No.24 bus. Directions and public transport information is given on booking. If you let us know on booking you would be travelling by public transport then we can offer you more information. Your children are both old enough to do the Scenic Farm Trek, we offer spectator places too if you want to join in, every place is chargeable as everyone joining is engages in the full experience. We have family experiences too. Full information regards the experiences and treks we offer are listed on the website under 'book a trek page'. We still have available places on the dates you are in Harrogate, but pre booking is essential, we are not a visitor farm and people can not just turn up, so please get in touch via the website or telephone to make your booking.
Many Thanks for your enquiry!

We have two small and well behaved dogs. Could they accompany us to see the llamas or not?
Written July 11, 2016
Hi, Thank you for your enquiry. I'm sorry but although your dogs are very well behaved, the llamas can become very unsettled with dogs around their area and we can not allow dogs to walk alongside them on the treks. Llamas are highly sensitive creatures and although we do meet dogs out on the treks, we only pass the dogs, if they were to walk with us it would be very un-settling to the llamas. therefore not a relaxing experience for llamas or humans! . Some people book a short experience and leave their dogs in the vehicle then walk them on the footpaths around the farm afterwards, so this is an option you may want to consider.
Written July 12, 2016
Children would love the experience. At the end of our short trek they showed a variety of smaller animals and I thought the whole experience was ideal for children/familes. Very informative and educational too.
