Went here for coffee this morning on our way to Stamford. Was impressed by the service and the dedication of the volunteers. Knew nothing about him but was drawn to him and his work.

We took some friends from Wales to visit this cottage as they are very interested in John Clare. We were immediately welcomed by the staff, who are all volunteers, giving up their own time, and who do an excellent job. We all thought that the...More

My wife is a John Clare fan. We live over 100 miles away from Helpston but thought we would visit today. The Cottage website said it was open but on arrival we were met with a closed sign. Very very poor.

Don't be misled, Clare and his large family lived in just a quarter of this impressive cottage in what was basically a one up / one down. No bathrooms or toilets then of course. The statue of Clare in the courtyard is life-sized, but remember...More

If you are interested in the poet John Clare then this is a must. Beautiful garden. Food in the cafe made on the premises. Lots of information. Follow it up with a visit to St Botolphs church afterwards.

For a small but tasty selection of cakes and scones or home made soup in an interesting setting then you need to try here. Very helpful staff and a rather good soup! I believe opening hours are infrequent so check before you go!

I've passed this place dozens of times but never visited. I decided to call in and was suitably impressed, the volunteers are very helpful and enthusiastic. There's an excellent audio tour that allows you to set your own pace and the gardens are beautiful. I...More

The cottage is a step in the past with excellent information but the car parking is not good. Not good for disabled or young children and prices a bit over the top. Helpston is a lovely village with a good pub and interesting church

Usually open Friday's and Saturdays but I would phone first to check as it is run by volunteers. I went on a group booking but I would assume there is a senior concession.
