You probably know us as a lovely place for children to see the animals, run around in beautiful countryside and let off steam in our state-of-the-art play barn - but there's a lot more to Sacrewell.

With the help of £1.4 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund, our 18th century water mill is being transformed into a national centre for milling excellence - take a tour and find out how your great-grandparents got their daily bread. Foodies can also join a tractor trip around the fields of our tenant farmers Riverford Organic Farms (it's on our land).

Then there's our wildlife trail, scavenger hunt and two new rambles - if you're lucky, you'll see the rare red kites and brown hares. Seasonal events range from our Lamb National to ploughing with vintage tractors. You can even meet a film star - some of our shires appeared in War Horse.

In our 50th year as a charity dedicated to agricultural education, we continue to welcome students of all ages who want to learn traditional skills and get an insight into rural life. We hope that all our visitors not only have a great day out but feel they've learned something too.

Great day out for young and old

This is a lovely farm with loads of animals. Feeding the animals is a real treat. Pack a picnic and have it on the grass. A must do if you are in the area

They have clearly benefited from a large lottery grant. On our previous visit some years age everything look tired and on the way out. Now is all clean and tidy, the play barn is greatly improved with a good indoor play area, the animals all look well kept and happy and the staff helpful. Different activities are undertaken. Enough to... More

We took to of our grandchildren, we bought a family ticket for £22.50 and we had a fantastic time. The children fed the animals, played pooh sticks and learned some history in the restored mill. Everywhere was clean and tidy, there were an abundance of picnic tables so we had a leasurely lunch watching children playing pooh sticks. We made... More

Enjoyable day out. Interesting use of old farm buildings showing farming through the ages and milling methods. There are animals to view and free roaming peacocks. Soft play area and nice cafe area. I found it expensive for what it was and for a family pass but on a nice day it is a lovely place to visit.

Love this place but I'm biased as I spent many happy hours here as a kid when it was a working farm run by friends of my parents, my Mum was in the land army here, and she is featured in the mill house and my grandkids love to go listen to Great Granny on the phone, its fun and... More

We met for coffee - had to check cafe was actually open! It was too early to eat so can't comment on food. My friend wasn't impressed by latte. We watched as young man set out food (bread rolls)on hot plate using bare hands - no tongs or gloves. None of counter staff had hair coverings.

The sun was shining which helps because most of the activities are outdoors. 4 hours of fun with the children, lots of animals to (and feed), and numerous to take part in. A good day out.

We had been staying at the campsite and though we would spend a couple of hours walking round the farm, before heading off to somewhere else. 7 hours later we finally managed to pull our children away from the farm. The Play barn is one of the best soft plays we have been to, the tractor ride is a lot... More
