The Tour – Reopening for guided tours mid-May 2017

Duncannon Fort is an impressive presentation of a bastioned fortress perched on the side of the stunning Hook Peninsula, County Wexford, part of Ireland’s Ancient East. This historic structure has gathered countless intriguing and awe inspiring stories over its 450 year history and holds one of the best vantage points to take in the beautiful Waterford Estuary from.

Duncannon Fort closed for the season on Sunday 28th August 2016. Thank you for all the support this season.

Susan our guide took us on an facinating tour of the fort and told us about its 800 year history. I thought its was such a shame its temporarily closed to public except to guided tours fingers cross is re-opens soon. Highly recommend an OPW tour was only a fiver each and takes about 45mins, although it was lashing rain... More

We really enjoy the time we spent here. Our guide Susan gave us a fascinating tour of the fort. She was amazing! Really really good with both adults and children. I highly recommend this place. It is a very important part of Irish history and when it's story is presented by superb guides like Susan, history lives!

Highly recommend this tour, great value for money. The tour guide Susan is fantastic full of info and chat, but best of all are the views from the fort and the history of the area is amazing. We were lucky to be able to go on one of the guided tours that took place in July and August this year. Our tour guide Bob was a nice man who had a good knowledge of the history of the fort and surroundings. The fort itself is very interesting. Too bad that parts are still closed for the public.... Susan gave an excellent tour. It was only me and a friend on the tour. It rained heavily the whole time. But Susan remained positive and professional. It was really interesting and definitly worth a visit.

Interesting and entertaining tour. The guide was good fun and the fort has an interesting history. They could make a lot more of it, which I believe they are planning to do if there is enough interest, but it needs some investment to bring out the real value of the place.

Really excellent tour. Tour guide Bob was brilliant. Vast knowledge of everything to do with the area and kept the kids entertained... Would really advise Wexford Council to do what they can to make it available to the general public again. Well worth the visit...
