    Full of history and stories
    Full of history and interesting stories at a reasonable price. There are quite a few steep steps up to the floors above but each floor is well set out with historical displays and one with a large screen showing a short film on the history of the tower. It was a shame that the roof top was closed as the views across the harbour would have been good but al the same a definite recommendation to visit this great building.

    Viking wonder
    Excellent tower showcasing Waterford's viking history. The guides are friendly and accommodating and answer all your questions. There is no guided tours but the tower is quite small and you get quite a comprehensive leaflet. The artefacts are very impressive too

    Excellent Staff
    We had previously bought all inclusive museum tickets that had a picture of this tower on the brochure. However, the tower is not included in the deal. It cost extra to visit. We were glad that we did pay our entry fee as both the building and exhibitions were very interesting, and the staff were very helpful and informative.

Imposing Landmark

We visited Reginald's Tower in April as part of our 2 week Ireland holiday . Named after the Viking ho founded Waterford , it is an imposing structure that you cannot really miss if you strolling around the waterfront.

There is a parking area across the road , so easily accessible along with a few other well known landmarks like the Clocktower.

Worth a quick short visit especially if you into Viking history

Helps set the scene for history of the city

When in Irelands oldest city you must visit the oldest civic building in the country too.
With Covid restrictions in place the displaces have been removed so that there is only an informative film left for you to watch on the top floor along with the building itself. As such its currently free to enter.
The staff are a wealth of information , just watch your head on the low ceilings and stone work

Beautiful and a Symbol of the City

Reginalds Tower is a stunning defensive tower at the apex of the Viking Trianlge in Waterford. As other reviews have said here already it is currently closed for renovations but it is still absolutely worth visiting just to see it's exterior and of course the wooden boat monument beside it.
I fully intend to come back and see the interior when it reopens but don't let the fact that you cant climb ut stop you from walking along to where the quays turn to see it.

Waterford at its best

Having walked past the tower at dusk and read a few of the information boards in the area on Sunday evening, we had to visit on Monday morning. Surprisingly, it was free to enter but this was due to the recent removal of the artefacts (gone for a clean I think). The tower was a lot bigger inside than you can imagine, a shame the artefacts were not there. However, on the top floor (very steep winding stone steps) there was a great film to watch showing the history of Waterford and how the tower has been used over its many years.

The two ladies at the desk were very knowledgeable of the tower, Waterford and the surrounding area. In fact one lady, recommended we visited Tramore and the coastal path, such a stunning place, thank you!

Great history lesson!

So glad we went. While the artifacts were not there (having conservation work done), we still enjoyed exploring the tower. The OPW had waived the admission fee because of that. Very enjoyable! Video gave a nice concise history of the settlement.

Interesting experience

Currently many of the old artefacts are not housed here so it's free entry. We turned up just as they were closing but they kindly let us in so we dashed up to the top and had a quick look at everything.
It's quite a tough climb to the top on windy, steep steps

Iconic historic tower along the Quay in Waterford City

Reginald's Tower is an iconic historic tower along the eastern side of the quay in the area of the Waterford Viking Triangle. It was built as a part of the city’s defences originally built at the beginning of 13th Century with further development in 15th Century.

The structure and has been used for many purposes over the centuries and holds a lot of importance in Waterford as well as being the oldest civic building in Ireland. There is a replica Viking long ship is exhibited outside Reginald's Tower.

Inside the building there is a comprehensive exhibition that is spread across all floors documenting the tower’s historic past and for the admission fee charged represents excellent value for money, it is a must see whilst in Waterford City.

Waterford is the oldest town in Ireland occupied by the Nords. The tower was built along the river. You climb inside the tower on steep but easy steps. There is a video of the history of the settlement in Waterford. The entrance fee is small and worth it.
