    Interesting Museum
As we were in Waterford for several days, we bought a combined ticket for this museum and others in the town. It was an interesting museum with a good deal of information about the long history of Waterford from the Viking period through to the Middle Ages. There were also mediaeval statues and vestments on display. Definitely worth a visit.

This is a fascinating museum on the history of Waterford since 900AD
A great museum giving a great overview of how Waterford developed since 900AD. It is very well laid out with a stack of fascinating information and artefacts on display. We were totally enthralled. We bought the Freedom Pass that got us a 45 min guided tour of the Viking Quarter (brilliant guiding by Jamie), entrance to Medieval Museum, Bishop’s Palace and Irish Silver Museum all for €20 each - amazing value

    Highly enjoyable 2 hour visit
We spent about 2 hours here and there was so much to read and hear. The museum is without doubt one of the best around. It is laid out on three floors with a different theme on each floor. There is an abundance of information supported by artifacts and manuscripts as you follow the history of Waterford from its earliest days over 1000 years years ago through the medeival historical period, and its interaction with the kings and queens of England. This is a very professional historical museum with great thought given to the presentation of the historical material and supported by several engaging a/v films. I would absolutely recommend a visit here to anyone visiting Waterford for the first time.

    Lovely museum!
Great museum, informative and interesting! We were really impressed with the digital element of the museum. Staff were lovely and answered lots of questions! Also you can ask for chess pieces at reception to play on the tables outside!

We came in and it was just a few minutes after 10:00 a.m. and were told the next tour didn't start until 11:00 a.m. so we could just look around or wait. Pretty much had the place to ourselves. We went ahead and started looking around at the museum, but could never see evidence of a 10:00 tour group. The first room had no explanation so we moved on to other areas. The best part for us was the short film that explained the history and the significance of the parchment and vestments.

Many thanks for your feedback in-relation to your recent visit to the award winning Medieval Museum and I really appreciate your comments, thank you! After coming all the way from Edmond, Oklahoma, we're delighted that you made your way to us here in the Viking Triangle and I'm sorry that you just missed the 10:00 am guided tour. All our tours start on the hour, unless it's a group booking and they would be allocated a specific guide for their own tour outside of the public tours. As you mentioned, the best way to see and hear all about Waterford's medieval history is to avail of the guided tour, which is included in the entry fee and our professional guides have many wonderful, fun and interesting stories to tell about that period which appeals to both young and old visitors. Our guides tell the story of our medieval history, we inform our visitors of what life was like in the medieval period in ‘Veðrafjǫrðr’ (Waterford), Ireland's oldest city. The award winning Medieval Museum is a very spacious museum, spread over three floors, with auditoriums to give people a better insight to the history laid out on each of the floors. Your guide would have brought you to the top floor of the museum and worked their way down through the two floors where the medieval history of Waterford is laid out. The top floor explains all about 'Trade & Commerce' of the city during Medieval times and then the floor below explains and goes through all the 'Religious, Church and Political history' from that period. On each floor there is an audio presentation prior to entering each floor which gives you an overview of what your about to see and what part it plays in Waterford's history. The two floors of fantastic artefacts, which are above the Choristers Hall and the Mayors Wine vault include the Great Parchment Book of Waterford from 1350, the Great Charter Roll which was commissioned in 1373, the stunning collection of High Mass Vestments, the 'Cloth of Gold Vestments from 1468, the only piece of clothing from King Henry VIII to survive, the 'Cap of Maintenance' from 1536, and a relic of the true Cross in a case from circa 110AD, a gift from Pope Paschal as well as the many other artefacts. We are rated highly on Tripadvisor and have been awarded the Tripadvisor Travellers Choice award three years in a row. Hopefully on your next visit, you can take the guided tour. Go raibh míle maith agat!

We elected to do the multi-museum entrance package and I am glad that we did. This museum in particular was the best out of all that were included, but I don’t know that I would have separately paid 10 euro to tour this. The priest’s vestments and the translated annals of Waterford book were the most interesting to me. There was a variety of artifacts and each was explained well

Visited this museum as part of the "package ticket" available in the town. It was well laid out with clear directions for Covid reasons. The artefacts and displays were excellent and a good audiovisual display giving the key points in the history of the town. Well wort a visit

We bought the ‘special’ ticket for 20 Euros each which gave us access to four museums. Unless you are a keen historian of English culture, to me it was a big so what. That being said, the museum is well done, though limited in its offerings. Not sure why it gets five star rating - hardly took any pictures

Visited this museum with my husband - attended one of the guided tours which was great and so informative, Guide was excellent. The whole museum is just fantastic, loads to see and well laid out exhibits. The audio visuals were well worth watching and the whole place encourages taking time to look, see and learn. A highlight has to be the Great Charter Roll closely followed by the vestments. Definitely one not to miss.

Good afternoon, Shelagh2801. Many thanks for your wonderful review of the Medieval Museum. It is an award-winning establishment and we are thrilled that you so thoroughly enjoyed your time with us. Guided tours are absolutely the best way to explore the museum. The two items you have highlighted are actually included on a list called 'The 100 Most Important Items in 9,000 Years of Irish History' so they are indeed remarkably highly regarded! We hope to see you again, Go raibh míle maith agat!

there were many amazing exhibits in this museum with plenty of information, the most notable being the medieval cloth of gold. Helpful guides if you need them and lifts to take you to each floor. The museum is well laid out, the display of copes through the ages is stunning , culminating in the Cloth of gold which was hidden for over a century. Worthwhile listening to some of the videos is different 'theatres' at different stages to learn more information. We bought a freedom ticket from the Bishops palace which was good value to see 4 museums.

We came across this museum while wandering and thought we’d go in for a look. There happened to be a tour starting so we joined in. Our guide was so knowledgable and the history of Waterford is fascinating.
They have amazing artefacts that have survived centuries. We really need to be tourists in our own country more and one good thing about COVID is that it’s forced us (as a family) to do that.
Both teens loved it as well.

Not one for guided tours but highly recommend this one. Guide was excellent and entertaining. I hadn’t realised the role that this ancient city played on the history of the UK and Ireland. Henry VIII s hat! As for the vestments - serious skill (and money) in these garments!
