Hired bikes from Waterford Greenway Bike Hire - €25 each for the day. Adequate and can be dropped off at a number of points along the way. If you get a puncture they will call out to you along the way to sort it. Very pleasant staff. Two callouts:
1) book in advance - a number of people turned up on spec but there was no availability for them
2) because of c19 the shuttle bus isn’t operating. We got the Bus Éireann from Dungarvan back to Waterford - chaos because of limited seating and increased demand from Greenway cyclists. Some people who were queueing for Bus Éireann well in advance were left behind. Waterford Greenway Bike Hire need to reinstate their bus even with a limited capacity/ price premium as this took the good out of the experience.

We started in Waterford and used park and ride on the quays. Parking is cheap.

We brought pack lunches and stopped off In Kilmacthomas and Dungarvan. There are cafes and other places to eat along the way too. Nice exploring those towns. And Waterford is also worth exploring and good to ramble about with plenty of food choices too.

Recommended.

My twin daughters and I traveled to Kilmacthomas to complete the Kilmacthomas to Dungarvin section of the Waterford Greenway. We hired bicycles at Greenway visitors centre and cycled 24km route. Weather wise it was stunning, allowing us enjoy the beautiful scenery and smooth cycle path. I would highly recommend this cycle although I have only given Waterford Greenway a 4 star rating for one small but very important reason and that is the public toilet facilities at Kilmacthomas visitors centre were locked. Waterford County Council in their wisdom have locked the facilities as part of their "Covid 19" restrictions. The only toilets available were located in the visitor centre cafe, so instead of providing a viable alternative everyone has to buy something at the restaurant and queue up to use the cafe toilets i.e. funneling a lot of patrons into a small area, what joined up thinking by Waterford CoCo.

This beautiful bike path is a must for all visitors to the Republic of Ireland. If you are not a cyclist, I recommend you hire an electric bike so you can still enjoy this amazing adventure. From Waterford, you’ll enjoy the first 23 kilometers of lush green pastures and gorgeous Irish country landscape along both sides of the path. I’d recommend stopping for water, coffee and a warm scone at the coffee shop along the Greenway mile marker 23. It’s too nice to pass up and it’ll give you a nice excuse to take a break.
From here, continue on to Dungarvan — you don’t want to miss this special second half of the Greenway. The tunnels, magical fairy kingdom and Dungarvan bay are breathtaking. I’m so glad I continued on to complete the ride. Plus the village of Dungarvan is colorful and inviting you’ll want to stick around for lunch or a snack.
The entire 46 kilometers of Greenway is smooth and solid path making it a comfortable ride. I highly recommend the Waterford Greenway.

Beautiful scenery and we loved cycling on the track with no cars. We hired bicycles in Waterford City some of us a little lazier hired battery bikes well worth the extra money. We cycled from Waterford City to Kilmacthomas and back so 25km there and 25km back as the shuttle buses weren't running. We stopped off in Kilmeadan where there is a little coffee/ice cream shop and a small train station. Very quaint.

We really enjoyed this Greenway on electric bikes. It is relatively flat but were happy to have the 'assist' from time to time. There were a couple of bike hire shops in Dungarvan but one was fully booked when we went so suggest that if this is something you want to do you book in advance.

The Waterford Greenway is a wonderful resource available to the people of Waterford and visitors alike. The entire Greenway is 46km from Waterford to Dungarvan, however the best part is from Durrow to Dungarvan (approx 10km).
The cycle path is wide and is relatively flat the whole way. Kids and adults of all ages and abilities should be able to manage to cycle along.

I would recommend renting bikes and starting in Dungarvan, we used O’Mahony’s bike rental as they were the cheapest I could find (€15 each for an adult bike). The bikes were comfortable and easy to us!

Cycle to Durrow and stop for some packed lunch goodies and enjoy the amazing 400m tunnel once again on your way back as well as the beautiful views of the water.

Hi did the Greenway on a Sunday in July. we started in Dungarven and had no problem in hiring bikes at short notice. There are three or four operators and they all came with helmets. Only thing that i would check for in future is a bike lock and to make sure bell is working. We traveled 30k out and 30k back and stopped in Kilmacthomas on way out small coffee shop very friendly and there is also a Centra Shop if you want to pick up supplies and the Coach out cafe ion way back. Really enjoyable. Only advice is that i would not do it on a Sunday again as it is fairly crowded with families and small children and would pick a quieter day. But worth doing.

I cycled the Waterford Greenway last week in both directions. Every section of it was well maintained with great sign posting, KM distance markers, safe crossing junctions, safety signage including emergency numbers and location details, clean tunnels and underpasses and absolutely no divergence with road traffic. All Greenways should be built to this standard. I travelled down from Derry to do this cycle and I wasnt disappointed.

Just a note about Dungarvan, which though is undoubtedly a very nice town, with lots to offer, needs to get with the programme in terms of how it welcomes the many Greenway cyclists who arrive into town.

As I arrived via the Greenway, I would say however that it came as a bit of a shock to see the amount of cars in town, with very little facilities for cyclists (no cycle lanes, very few bike racks, no cycle related signage etc.) The town council have some work to do to make things more cycle friendly, however I believe that adapting to the Greenway will take time, and hopefully this will be prioritised. Greenway cyclists shouldn't have to fear for their life upon arrival, because they have entered the kingdom of the motorcar.

I was with a friend, and there were only two of us to run the gauntlet of the many one way streets, packed with parked cars, and traffic jams, with no idea of where we could cycle in safety, park our bikes, and generally avoid getting knocked down. I didn't see a single cycle lane anywhere in town, which I found amazing. A family of cyclists with small children, coming off the Greenway, would be genuinely terrified, and rightly so.

Dungarvan : it's time for some joined up thinking !

The actual Greenway is great, a wonderful amenity for locals and visitors alike. On the various occasions we've visited Dungarvan, we've always walked a good stretch of the way. Sadly, we're never able to fully relax and enjoy the experience due to the constant near-misses as cyclists speed by without warning. We do our best to walk single file and close to the edge, but still have to constantly look over our shoulders. How hard can it be to simply ring the bike bell, or if you feel the extra weight of a bell would slow your racing bike down, just say 'coming through' or similar? Cyclists constantly complain about cars not giving them space, practice what you preach!
