It was novel to drive across the sand to Coney Island (check the tide times!). We only had half an hour or so but found the deserted beach on the far side and enjoyed that. Definitely worth a visit.

Coney Island is always a great Segway on a drive from Strand Hill to Sligo (Tide timing permitted) The Island itself is small and rural and it's worth a visit. There is a small bar and the roads are not great so take care when...More

Coney Island is a must visit if you’re in Sligo, how often do you get the chance to drive to an island across the seabed! (Obviously when the tide is out) The day we went to Coney Island we had the beautiful beach all to...More

Before you go to Coney Island make sure you check when high tide is so you won't get stuck on the island. Coney Island has beautiful views and the beach isn't as busy as the ones on the main land. There is a ruin of...More

Coney Island is located off Strandhill Co. Sligo. The island is accessible by land at low tide. Bet that you didn't know that it's more famous namesake in New York was named after this island, by a Sligo sea captain!

Driving to Coney Island - how long before cut off? (9 Replies)
We'll be in the area this weekend and thinking of driving over to Coney Island. Low tide is showing at approx 1.20 on Sat afternoon. How long before or after that is it safe to drive over and back ?

Went on a city bike tour with "Bike with Mike." I learned about Mike from Trip Advisor forum. Great suggestion! It was a perfect way to see the city, learned a lot and great pacing. It's easy to do: just show up at the bike rental place at around 9:45 and the tour starts at 10:00. No need to sign up first, just show up on time. The bike rental place is called Kobenhavns Cykler and is located near the Main Train Station at Reventiowsgade 11. His web site is www.bikecopenhagenwith mike.dk Also...More

Ostia Antica to Ostia Lido? (4 Replies)
I had the same questions posted on another thread and still needed some help so here it goes... Can we walk from Ostia Antica to Ostia Lido? What should I look for on a map to locate the "beach" area to swim or is it just a shore line and I can pick the perfect spot? Is the beach crowded during late June? (Remember, crowded to me is Coney Island's beach on a Saturday in July, I'm a New Yorker). What is the atmosphere at Ostia Lido, tourists, families, teen/college kids? How far of a walk is...More

Take the Lido trains from Ostia Antica to the Ostia Lido. At the Ostia Lido its a 5-10 minute walk to the beach. There is a public beach but it has many rocks. You would need to bring your own lounge chair and umbrella. The beach is filled with private beach clubs. You do not need to be a member. You can pay a daily rate for 2 lounge chairs/beds and an umbrella (about 25-30 euro for the day). A staff member will set up the chair & umbrella for you and then it's yours for the day. The...More
