This is a converted railway track which goes on for miles between Westport / Newport / Mulranny and on to Achill Island. There is minimal interaction with traffic and so is very safe and picturesque. If you are going to Westport, bring your bikes because this is one of the best resources in a long line of attractions in Westport

The countryside along the North Mayo coast is hauntingly beautiful. Cycling along the Greenway gave me a newfound appreciation for an area I had only previously driven through. Rolling pasture land, peat bogs, mountains, lakes, oyster fisheries, stone ruins and wildflowers are just some of the varied sights I enjoyed along the route. The Greenway well maintained, very tidy, and... More

We did the section from Mulranny to Achill. I did Mulranny to Newport a couple of years ago. Mulranny to Achill has some spectacular scenery. The trail is wide and gritted and very safe. There is a section running beside a busy road but you don't share with traffic, just need to be a little more vigilant with the children.... More

We did this last week and it was so enjoyable. Grays a bit sore on the bus. Good value. We had great weather for it. Would recommend.

As a couple who have not been on bicycles for almost 30 years, we were understandably apprehensive about committing to cycling all this distance. But boy did we not have anything to worry about. This is simply the most stunning, and enjoyable bicycle route imaginable. Apart form an initial 500 metres in Achill (and a short hop through Newport), we... More

Cycled the Greenway from Achill Island back into Westport (~45K) with a group of friends, two of whom had never been to Ireland before. Great day's cycling, especially if you're not so proficient, since the path is good and the climbs are gentle (mostly on the old disused railway line); views were beautiful and very few occasions where you have... Part of the Great westerngreen way belonged to my Ancestors and the family home is still use by my family , I was recently there to visit and walked twice from the homestead 3 klm there and back to Yvonnes cafe ,which made it more exciting knowing that we would be getting a lovely tea and cake or hot soup... Cycled from Westport to Newport and back (22k) with my brother and 3 kids aged 13, 10 and 10. Stopped for light lunch in Newport. It really was a very enjoyable activity. The Greenway is very well signposted and very well designed. The route took us through woodland, fields and roadside. Bridges, gates and signs all attractive and well designed.... More

We were a family of 5 (2 Adults and 3 Children). We all have road bikes so we rode from Newport to Achill Sound on the road for fear of punctures. The first half was very busy and not ideal. The road across to Achill was fabulous and we could have just kept going. Coming back, we decided to use... More

Brillant really enjoyed it, every county should have one. The whole set up was so well run from getting the shuttle bus and collecting the bikes. I think it would benefit from more portaloos, and distance travelled signs. Overall a few hours well spent
