Took a chance on the weather one day while staying Westport and took the ferry to Clare Island. I have to say I was not disappointed although it wouldn't be for me on a dreary day. Not much to do but for walking it is absolutely beautiful. We walked to the lighthouse and back, stopped for coffee along the way.... More

We went to the island for 2 days. We stayed at O'Gradys overlooking the beach, wonderful. Helen looked after us very well. Her breakfast was great. The island is a great walking destination with some easy walks and some difficult. The Sailors Bar had great fish and chips. It is so peaceful and the scenery is second to none. I... More

38 in all arrived on the afternoon ferry because of the large group we were divided up in different b&bs apartments and the hostel. My wife and I were lucky to stay at O'Gradys b&b right by the pier with a super beach view from room 1. All of the group enjoyed the accommodation but I would have to say O'Gradys... More

During a recent holiday in the West of Ireland, we dropped by Roonah Pier to check arrangements for a day-trip to Clare Island (tickets can be bought online but we had some questions). We were delighted to hear from the lady who was at the ticket office of O'Malley Ferries on Roonah Pier that we could bring our 2 dogs... More

What a memorable day. We got the ferry out to Clare island. It's so peaceful and you can sense the peace and tranquillity when you arrive. The natives are so friendly. We walked 10k route around the island. It's so peaceful and exquisite views of mountains and sea views. The visitors centre is a must as also the local shop.... More

Although you can stay on Clare Island, we found that a day trip was perfect. We packed a picnic and rented bikes. Everyone was so friendly. The sites and views were stunning - definitely worth the trip. Ferry Ride to get there was short - about 12 minutes.

I know several people/groups who visited Clare island for hillwalking so when we got the chance we stayed for one night and had a great time,it was interesting to talk to the locals and find out what it's like to live on an island. We stayed in Grainne Wale b+b at the harbour and dined in the Sailers bar, super accommodation!

We went to Clare Island as part of a group walking trip. We stayed at the hostel, and did a day's walk around the whole island (around 12 miles), which encompassed quiet roads and tracks, and steep cliffs and fell walking. Amazing views of the island and the hills on the mainland all around. Brilliant for wildlife watching, seeing lots... More

The beauty and peace of the place is stunning. The air is fresh and island has a sort of forgotten magic to it that I haven't found else where in the last 10 years. If you like walking, nature and peace then this is the place to come to. The people are friendly always with a smile and a word.... More

My wife and I were lucky to have a sunny and clear day at the mid of October. Took a ferry from Roonagh (40 min drive from Westport through Louisburgh - pass the town and then take right) at 10:40. The price is 12-15€ both ways. It takes about 20 min. Walked arround the whole day and almost didn't see... More
