This is really something special but it doesn't look good and it's not well cared for. A structure like this needs to be lit up and a place for people to go for photos and tag themselves in a photo of this lovely town to spread the word. Put some up lighters and make it accessible for visitors. It's not enough to look at and the vantage point needs to be opened. There should also be a storyboard of its steep history.Nudge nudge council....

We were on a family visit to Drogheda recently and to get familiar with the place I had done a bit of research beforehand to find out some interesting places to visit while there. St Laurences Gate is quite spectacular because as you can actually drive through the middle of it. This a unique experience. You can also walk right up to it but its kind of dangerous if you are trying to cross the road to go from one side of it to the other. It would be really cool if you could walk up into either of the towers but its not accessible. This important structure needs to be protected for future generations which could involve changing its "drive through" use.

One of the few remaining pieces of history in Drogheda. Very good shape and interesting feature. Worth seeing.

I suppose to those who grew up, and live in the "Land of Saints and Scholars," it would be possible to grow blasé about such wonders, but to walk through a barbican gate in the middle of a modern city is rather amazing to an American.
Striking and beautiful.

Now that it's closed to traffic, the gate seems to be very lonely at the seeming end of the street. People drove past in cars and people walked by with few even looking at this medieval tower. We were the only people walking around it at mid-day and there was an information board next to it to enlighten you on it's history.

Beautiful old town gate with evidence of fortified architecture. Please mind the traffic if you are there at a busier time of the day as the curve can be quick.

Without doubt the premier tourist attraction in Drogheda and possibly louth. The finest barbican gate standing like a giant over the town of Drogheda for over 800 years. Soon to open to the public all going to plan. what a gem!

A good example of a gate of a walled city dating back to the 13th century. Was able to park beside it. You can see we're the portcullis went up and down to seal off the city

What a great example of medieval buildings built to withstand time and weather a beautiful gateway to Drogheda.

The gate itself is pretty cool but I wouldn’t make a special trip to see it.

We visited the St Laurence Gate as one of the stops on the Drogheda Steps Walk. The walk we found to be somewhat disappointing. The walks brochure (see drogheda.ie) talks it up but there is a lot of nothingness in this 6.5km trail. I’d perhaps suggest the shorter “Walls” or “Spires & Towers” walks - maybe they have more of interest to see?
