Galway would be best, as the city itself if really popular with tourists and there's a great vibe there. The countryside is beautuful there. Also has lots of tourist attractions near by like connemara, the aran islands etc.

Where to stay when visitng son at University of Limerick? (12 Replies)
We are from New York and our son is attending a semester at the University of Limerick this spring. We are visiting him for 3 days before traveling around Ireland and would like to stay within 45 minutes of the University in a nice B & B. Does anyone have any suggestions? We would like to be close to him, but do not mind staying in a town close to Limerick, rather than in Limerick. Thanks.

University of Limerick stands on the grounds of Plassey. These lands were bequethed to Robert Clive or "Clive of India" for his sucess in the Conquest of India. The grounds were his private estate and are named after the Battle of Plassey, 1757. The original house still stands and now houses the offices of the university president and is also used for hospitality etc. The campus lies on the banks of the river Shannon which was the holiday destination of generations of Limerick people in years...More

There are buses to Galway City as well from UL take bus 304 to Sexton St for Colbert Station a five minute walk away. ( Bus and Train Station ) Google " Buseireann 51 " via Shannon airport or "Buseireann X51" direct to Galway journey time about 90 mins
