Worth a visit in the middle of Kilkenny. Lovely church like many in Ireland and worth the time for a look.

This is a great place for a moment of solitude and to get a breather from siteseeing and to appreciate some history and architecture both at the same time.

Easy to walk to from all points in town and nice landscaping of the grounds make this a worthy site for all lovers if architecture and urban explorers.

An interesting church but as i could not get out the back I could not see the original and older parts. Still, an interesting visit.

Ran across St. John's at the end of the day looking for someplace off the beaten track to have dinner. An informational brochure inside the entrance gave the the history of the church and described some of its decorative elements. I used the opportunity to say a prayer for my mother-in-law who was recovering from hip-replacement surgery. We sat quietly and enjoyed the quiet.

Saw this just wandering the streets at dusk, was really well lit up at night and the grounds were open so we could get a couple of good shots

This is another of County Kilkenny's treasures. How they manage to maintian these old places is beyond me, but they do and they are magnificent.

It is just beautiful and full of history and marvel. We were so lucky to have a local that was educated in the history of this once magnificent structure that was kind enough to talk with us for almost an hour

St. John's Priory was erected in the thirteenth century by the Augustinian religious order.

As with other building owned by religious orders, the priory was seized under King Henry VIII's reign in the mid-fifteenth century and handed over to the state. Unfortunately, most of this landmark lays in ruins, with the choir the sole remnant from the original structure. However, the Lady's Chapel was renovated in the nineteenth century and is presently used for Church of Ireland services.

The Chapel features an impressive number of windows, thus it has been called the "Lantern of Ireland."
