This was the best part of our day in Kilkenny. Four Euro is a bargain considering how gorgeous this place is. You get to visit and walk around an original old medieval town house, its successive cobbled courtyards and - best of all - the...More

This was a great attraction in the medieval town. We were late to tour the insides but did manage to see the huge roof top garden. While it needed some love, the enormity of the place gave us some perspective on the life and times...More

I can't believe I've been in Kilkenny so many times and haven't visited this beautiful house. A magnificent cultural 'must visit' on anyone's agenda while in Kilkenny. I almost missed the garden, thinking it was one of the little courtyards, but was blown away to...More

This place has potential but more needs to be done to give more explanation of objects in rooms or make it more interactive. We visited friday (4th aug) afternoon and have to say customer service was non-existent. The young lady at reception was no more...More

Literally across the road from the Smithwick's experience Rothe House is a must do for garden lovers. Beautifully reconstructed from the original garden, a beautiful oasis in Kilkenny.

I have been to Rothe House museum twice. It is without doubt one of the gems of Kilkenny with its history dating back to 1594. I wish there was more to see about daily life at that time, though, like furniture (even if it were...More

Monday morning - very peaceful trip.Hardly anyone there - no screaming children so it was a pleasure to come across this building. The guides are self-explanatory and just the right length. There are a lot of stairs just in case someone has access problems, but...More

We really enjoyed going through the Rothe House and imagining life in the 13th century as well as John Rothe's family's life in this house. In fact, we loved all the rich history we were able to enjoy in our trip to Ireland, going thru...More

Allow 1-2 hours, that should be sufficient, but if you are on a whirlwind tour like a lot of Americans who come here, see the castle first, enjoy the touristy shopping mall opposite the castle, the high street and the... More
