About
Located on the 13th century site of St Mary's cruciform church and graveyard. As the starting point of the 'Medieval Mile' trail, it brings to life Kilkenny's history as Ireland's premier medieval city. Displays of Kilkenny's civic treasures and replicas of some of the High Crosses of Ossory illustrate the local Gaelic monastic heritage and the ancient city's historic role in Ireland. The Interactive Audio Tour is available throughout the day, and can be downloaded to your personal device. Audio Guides are also available, and come in 5 languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish). Child friendly versions are also available in each language. The LEGO® mini figure Hunt, which sees 10 characters from Kilkenny's history hidden around the museum in the form of LEGO® mini figures has become extremely popular with kids of all ages! School tours, language schools and third level, please see our website for costings and booking information.

Absolutely fantastic museum! I would highly recommend visiting the Medieval Mile Museum and getting a guided tour as it is well worth it. The tour guide John, knows an abundance of knowledge about Kilkenny’s culture and heritage. He totally brings the history to life which allows you to full immerse yourself into the experience and the importance of this site. It was brilliant experience and I couldn’t recommend it enough! The gift shop also provides an opportunity to find very unique and reasonably priced items that are not found in other traditional Irish gift shops. I truly couldn’t recommend this experience enough!!

I did the walking tour recently with a friend who was visiting Kilkenny and all I can say is wow - what a fantastic addition the Medieval Mile Museum is to Kilkenny!

Our tour guide was excellent, and we passed two engrossing hours learning about Kilkenny's medieval history - so many facts were imparted, but in a funny and interesting way where we were never overloaded. Any questions we had were easily answered in great detail and we were clearly in the hands of an expert who is passionate about her subject.

After the tour it was back to the museum, which made for interesting perusal having done the tour and with everything put in context. If you’re new to Kilkenny I’d recommend heading here first as your first port of call - it’s sets the scene for everything else you’ll see in the city and is so throughly worthwhile.

The medieval mile museum located in Kilkenny city, this museum tells the history of 800 years. When you enter you are givin an audio guide which is very useful the staff are very helpful always walking around and telling historical stories.
There is also a special lego figure hunt for kids. It is way harder than you would think and so much fun. This museum was a great hour of fun they have some very cool artifacts and did you know the graveyard contains 70,000 bodies. I know crazy. This is a must see for all ages!

I decided to do the guided tour based on reviews I read. And I’m so glad I did. My tour guide was Anna and not only was she extremely knowledgeable about Kilkenny’s history, but you could tell she was genuinely interested and passionate about it, which made the tour even better. We spent an hour walking around various sites in the city and I left feeling like I had such a greater understanding and appreciation for this magnificent place.

We had a fantastic two hours in this fascinating museum in the heart of Kilkenny. Its houses in the 13th century St Mary's, in itself an absolute gem.
Initially you are met by a wonderful, knowledgeable, friendly guide who gives you the lowdown on the medieval history of the city, how it grew as a trading town using New Ross port, about Alice Kyteler the witch, about the influence of the church and how the city grew and thrived.
I wish I knew his name as he deserves to be name checked!
Then you can either use your phone and scan qr codes to hear the guide at key points throughout the museum or take an audio guide which is included in the €8.50 entry ticket.
Superb museum, so interesting. It has skeletal remains found during excavations, artefacts like coins found by archaeologists, ancient manuscripts, religious iconography, and a huge array of carvings. You can tour the cemetery in the grounds, the rest is inside.
They have worksheets and treasure hunt styles activities for kids too. Just a captivating place, you really learn a lot about Kilkenny and its history.

We called into the Medieval Museum to check out the history of Kilkenny & it was a very interesting few hours to see all the exhibits in the Church & view the interactive displays throughout the building. The staff were very informative with some great stories to tell about the history of the city & past inhabitants. Well worth a visit if you want to explore the city

If you're in Kilkenny get a guided tour in this place. Patrick simply rocks and I would love all history teachers to have storytelling ability like he does. Few hundred years of town and Ireland history in one hour told in fascinating way. Best tour guide I have ever heard.

We were greeted by a lovely staff member who was happy to share his break sharing his local knowledge with us before we even got to the door !!! We had prebooked online but seemed to be no issue with people getting tickets on arrival. We used the audio guide which offered more information at the press of a button if you wished. Despite the size of the building the wealth of information was brilliant and the church is beautifully refurbished leaving some of the original structure in key areas. Staff were very friendly and great value for money.
