Booked the Killarney Lakes boat tour in conjunction with bike hire to cycle through Gap of Dunloe and back to Killarney. It was an exceptional tour, highly enjoyable and the best part of our 3 days in Killarney. Upon booking we had been concerned that the two hour boat journey would be too long and we might find it boring but nothing could be further from the truth. Our tour guide, Donal, was outstanding. He had so much interesting information and history with lots of great stories about the nature, wildlife, life on and around the lakes. his love and passion for the area really shone through. It is definitely the best way to fully appreciate the outstanding natural beauty of this area. We even stopped off at an uninhabited island in the lake along the way. Unmissable if in Killarney but I would caution that it may be less enjoyable in poor weather conditions.

My daughters and I booked the return boat trip from Ross Castle to Lord Brandons lodge , I have been to Killarney many times before but never took a boat trip on the lakes before. Absolutely amazing , the scenery was stunning , the reflections of the shoreline and mountains in the lake was stunning . Raymond was the skipper for our outward journey , he was so informative and wonderfully assisted by his spaniel Ted who the girls adored.
After spending some time at Lord Brandons lodge , Donal O Donoghue was our skipper for the return leg , He let my daughters steer through the lakes and totally made their day .
I can't recommend this highly enough , A day trip to remember ..

It was great to see you all on the tour and the girls were very kind to Ted. Thank you for taking the time to write a review and we hope to see you all back in Killarney before too long! Rory

Our B&B host booked four of us on a bus to Kate Kearney's Cottage so we could do a one-way hike through the Gap of Dunloe to Lord Brandon's Cottage. One there, we were picked up by Donal O’Donoghue for a boat ride back to Ross Castle (which was near our B&B.)

Donal was absolutely FANTASTIC. Even though it was pouring rain, Donal made the afternoon fun. He showed us highlights of the lake area, changes due to fires, and gave us some of the history. Best of all, we were able to hear what it's like living in Killarney and about his father's and grandfather's experiences working on the lake. The whole trip was laid-back and enjoyable. Big recommendation for Killarney Day Tour if you're in Killarney. We'd do it all over again. Donal was a blast.

This was a fantastic experience! We went on a boat tour on Lough Lane, one of the Killarney lakes, starting from Ross Castle and visited the beautiful Innisfallen island where the ruins of an old Irish Monastery remain. Our tour guide Rory was excellent and provided us with lots of information on the history of the area, the lakes, the castle, the wildlife, the monastery and Innisfallen island. It was definitely worthwhile for the tour on its own but the scenery was beautiful also. It was so peaceful and relaxing out on the lake. The island itself was also lovely! We went early in the morning so we had the island to ourselves and spotted several deer while walking the loop around the island. Rory also gave us lots of other recommendations and tips for our time in Kerry. Would definitely recommend!

Did this boat trip last year and it was excellent. My family and I decided to do it again this year. Rory was our boat guide and he was absolutely brilliant and gave lots of history about the lakes/ surrounding areas. A spectacular way to see the national park.

We did a morning boat trip to Innisfallen Island. We had such a fantastic time and couldn’t believe how beautiful Killarney lakes are. Our captain was Rory and he was very knowledgeable about the history of the Ross Castle, Innisfallen Island and other surroundings. Rory was absolutely great to answer all of our questions as we explored the surroundings. Our dog was also allowed on the boat with us which was perfect! The boat trip was one of our highlights of our Killarney trip and we recommend it to everyone!
Thank you Rory!

We took the boat up the three lakes with Dermot as far as Lord Brandon's cottage and back with Patsy on the Cailin Alainn. They were knowledgeable and entertaining. The weather was absolutely glorious and we cannot fault the experience from booking to disembarking. This is a trip not to be missed whatever the weather. The views are stunning.

I cannot rate this tour company highly enough. We had a tour to Innisfallen from Killarney Golf course with close family and friends. Daniel took us out, he arrive well in advance of our booking and was the perfect host. Highly recommend Ducks and team for a tour of the lakes.

I did a great trip yesterday which included the Gap and the lakes. We started and finished at Muckross House as this is a great location for a number of reasons. (Safe and free Parking, beautiful location, super Café, nice craft shop, not to mention Muckross House itself)

Here is what we did:
Parked Muckross House Car park at 10:30am. There were loads of free spaces at that hour of the day.

Travelled from there (8 miles) to Kate Kearneys cottage. We were supposed to go by taxi but more about that at the end of this post.

Started walking from Kate Kearneys at 11am through the Gap, down Black Valley and to Lord Brandons cottage. It is 10Km (6.25 miles) This took 2.5 hours which included a short stop for picnic, however, you could do this walk in 2 hours.. You can buy teas/coffees/ soup/ sandwiches etc at Lord Brandons (when the little café is open)

At 2pm we met Dermot (from Killarney Day Tours) at the small pier just a minute walk from Lord Brandons. We had pre booked seats on his boat €13.50 per person. It is important to at least make contact with him before you travel.

We left Lord Brandons at 2pm and arrived at Muckross about one hour later having travelled via the Upper Lake, the river and Muckross Lake. www.killarneydaytour.com Dermot will also take you further to Ross Castle if you prefer and for this the cost is the same. Dermot was very entertaining and informative and his open traditional boat (seats 12) is beautifully maintained. Buoyancy aids are provided and compulsory. The nice thing about getting back to Muckross at 3pm is that it gives you time to explore around there. You could walk over to Torc Waterfall or just stroll around the gardens. We chose to have snacks at the Self Service Restaurant adjacent to Muckross House, and this restaurant is excellent. Muckross House can also be visited when you are here, but check opening times online first before you plan this.

The only major disappointment of the day was the no show of our prebooked taxi to take us from Muckross Car Park to Kate Kearneys cottage. This taxi was booked from 'Corcorans Taxis - Killarney' last Friday. Sean took all my travel details but never showed up as agreed. When I phoned him, he was rude, accusing and most unprofessional. Essentially, he just plain forgot. An apology would have helped but it wasn't forthcoming. There are plenty of taxi companies in Killarney, so Corcorans is the one that you should avoid. Careless, shoddy and zero Customer Service. A complaint has been sent to Dept of Transport.

Despite this disappointment, we had an amazing day out and I have already agreed to repeat it. Total time taken 10:30am to 3pm

P.S. Cost of taxi from Muckross to Kate Kearneys Cottage would have costs us €32 for 11 people. The cost would be less (probably half) if it was a car rather than a minivan.

Our B&B host arranged a boat tour with Killarney Boating & Tour Centre for our family of six. We met Dermot at Ross Castle and he entertained the adults and kids through the 90 minute tour through the three lakes, pointing our sites, telling stories, and making it a great experience. I highly recommend him for a fun trip!
