Prior to heading to Killarney for our Staycation I contacted Killarney Falconry & got a very prompt reply from Geoffrey detailing the experience & the prices... as I wanteed to be certain of doing this & you can never guarantee Irish weather we didn't book until we were on the ground, so to speak. The Weds forecast seemed the best so we booked and met John in a hotel carpark. We followed him to some woods down a very long lane & at last arrived at the destination - a wooded copse of trees. We then met Meeko the Harris hawk & each of us got multiple turns at having him fly to the gaunlet to feed. During the experience John entertained us with lots of info about falconry including the many terms that have migrated into the English language. And just when we though it was all over we got back to John's van and three fabulous owls were produced... each of us got a nuzzling owl on our gloved hand.. who knew these beautiful birds were so affectionate? It was the perfect end to one of the highlights of my existence....

This was an exoerience I was really looking forward to ahead of our trip to Ireland and it did not disappoint. Our falconer, John is an incredible guide and teacher who you can tell genuinely cares for these birds. My group consisted of 6 (my family) and we each got ample time to be up close with Miko the Harris Hawk and a variety of the most beautiful owls I have ever seen. To be so close to these birds and witness their strength and intelligence was very special. I would do this again in a heartbeat! It's a good idea to pack a raincoat (when doesn't it rain in Ireland?!) and wear long pants since you're out in a field with tall grass (flies and mosquitos).

We booked this tour after finding it on the internet. Honestly, we weren't sure what to expect...so glad we booked it!
Truly sorry, but don't remember our bird handler's name, but he was very communicative, friendly, and provided tons of great information not he birds. We had a chance to see a hawk and 3 different types of owls in action. We each took multiple turns letting the hawk/owls land on our hands (using gloves) and taking pictures and video. It was a cold rainy morning and none of us cared because we were having a cool experience!
The birds looked extremely healthy, and it looked like the handler truly took care and bonded with these beautiful birds.
Honestly, even though it's only an hour long, it was probably one of the coolest things we did in Ireland during the holiday. Totally well worth it!
Recommendations: You meet the handler away from the city, so bring water, stay warm, and no bathrooms. He takes cash for payment.

As part of our staycation in Kerry, we booked in for the guided tour. Hands down one of the best experiences we’ve ever done! While initial apprehensive as I wouldn’t have thought before this I didn’t like birds, I found it to be a really enjoyable experience.
It really made us feel on holiday. Lovely memory. Got great photos too.
The walk takes place in a woods so ideal coverage from the drizzle of rain. Book it you won’t regret it!

Absolutely brilliant experience! John was lovely, very informative and answered all our questions. Miko, Riley and Casper were absolutely gorgeous. It was a pleasure and an honour to have experienced the Hawk Walk and I would thoroughly recommend it to anybody who is considering it.

We met John and he guided to a little wood just outside Killarney. John introduced us to Miko the Harris Hawk and took us on a tour thru the wood with each of us getting loads of time with Miko. Our 5 and 6 year old were delighted to meet, Handle and Fly Miko. John answered all our questions, even the silly ones and took fabulous photos. We ended with 10 minutes of play time (hugging, petting and the occasional nibble) with 2 barn owls, a tawny owl and a skopse owl.

Excellent experience for the family. We visited Killarney for a weekend and absolutely loved our experience with the falconry, it was one of the highlights of our trip.
We got to meet Tex the Harrier and were amazed to see the bird so close to its hunting environment.
Booking and arrangement were made so easy with no long complications and the area is we visited was not too far from the town.
This is a must do experience when visiting Killarney as we would have never got so close and witnessed the birds in any other manner.
At the end were got a delightful surprise when meeting the 3 owls.
Our guide on the day was full of knowledge and so helpful and friendly.
We have many pictures to look back on and show friends and family of this great experience

This experience was incredible.
A private hawk walk and A lot of animal interaction with so many great pictures and memories. John was amazing, this was the highlight of our Ireland trip. He was kind ,patient and so friendly. ( I have a tendency to get a lil EXCITED.) You can really see how much he cares for these birds. We learned quite a bit about the birds as we walked around and had the bird retrieve food from our glove. We were flying Miko a Harris hawk. It was absolutely incredible. He took the time to take some really great photos for us and even a slow motion fly over. After posting my pics friends and family want to go just for this experience alone. I highly recommend this company and tour. After our hawk walk we were introduced to a couple owls …OMG !!!! so frickin cute and cuddly. I had the Tawny owl named Rylee and my husband had this little bitty white face Scops named professor.
I really feel that John went out of his way to make sure we had the very best experience.
I love birds and I have owl decor everywhere in my house , my husband said he searched the ground for feathers for me and didn’t find any, and then John came back with feathers out of the van …it was so thoughtful.
Thank you again John for an incredible experience.

Thoroughly enjoyed our hawk walk this morning with Liam. We flew a variety of spectacular eagles/owls and had plenty of time to hold them. Liam was amazing with the birds and answered all our questions! It’s one of the most amazing experiences and would highly recommend it to anyone!

This was an amazing experience that we will never forget! John and his birds are wonderful, he is so patient with them and made sure each of the 16 of us got our pictures with his Hawk, Arizona.
This is a must do in Killarney, I can't say enough about it! Schedule your entire Killarney visit around it.
The affection he shows his birds is so touching, they love him!

Can I pay with a credit card? Or cash-only? I can’t tell if this is a situation where you go to a brick and mortar location to begin the walk (like an American ranger station) or you meet a guide in the woods and start right on the trail, and I would like to be prepared with cash if needed. Also, do you tip the guide? If so, what amount or percentage would be appropriate? Thanks all!

We met our guide in the woods, and we paid cash so I’m not sure if credit card payment is acceptable.

Hello,
We are traveling to Ireland next month and will have a fairly large group with us. How many people max do you recommend for a single booking? There could be as many as 15 of us. Also, what would the cost be for a group that large?
Kimberly S

I would recommend a group as small as possible- no more than 4-6 people and no kids.
I don’t remember the cost per person, as it was part of a conference fee. Hope you enjoy!

I don't see prices on their website. Does anyone recall how much it is per person or group? There will be 4 adults.

These were the prices when we did it back in April 2018. They may have changed but email them- I got quick responses and good answers when I was wondering if we should do it.
FYI- it was the adventure my kids talked about the most when we returned.
This was a portion of the email response I got last year:

You should contact them and ask. I emailed them from the US and got quick responses (taking into account time difference). Info is at the bottom of the response.
This was sent from them in March to me and it answered all of my questions but the 2-3 day timeframe was not addressed.
I will say that it was one of the experiences of our trip our kids are still talking about- enjoy if you get to book it!
