I took a walk by Lough Leane on some of the various signed routes provided. Signage was excellent and walking was beautiful, with the lake at one side and deer and wildlife surrounding. Some of our group even helped a Doe who was trapped in foliage !.. What an experience. Fatastic Walking location, and well worth a visit.

You have to go to Ross Castle for a boat, it's 10e per person, but you get an hours trip with commentary for all the historic locations on the lake. With covered boats you can make the trip in poorer weather, lots of places to take photo's to record your visit.

Go on the boat trip from Ross Castle to really experience this here the banter of the boats crew and the history whether by the small more intimate boats that can explore many of the smaller islands within the lake or by the larger touring boatd

We combined exploration of the beautiful Lough Leane with the hike through the Gap of Dunloe. The boat ride was very scenic and picturesque. It started at The Lord Brandon's Cottage. Our guide was eloquent and witty and made the trip very interesting. Depending on variable Irish weather it can be very cold and windy on the lake so dress appropriately.

We crossed Lough Leane by open boat as part of a day tour. The water was a bit choppy (with lots of spray), but it was well worth it. The view of the mountains from the lake is stunning. From our B&B we had a fantastic view of the lake, so got to look down on it as well as up from it.

Loch Léin is the lowest of Killarney's Lakes at sea level, hence the term "lower lake". It is most commonly known as the Lower Lake by locals. It is also the largest of the lakes, and closest to Killarney town, easily assessed from Ross Road or the National Park. It is home to Ross Castle, Killarney's most famous landmark. Several local legends surround the lower lake. A Jaunting car can be hired from town to Ross Castle or through the National Park to the Lower Lake, where one can also take a boat across Loch Léin to Inisfallen Island, to view the monastic ruins there.
Loch Léin meets with Muckross Lake ( the Middle Lake) and the Upper Lake at the Meeting of the Waters........a definite place to visit when visiting Killarney.

My partner Jim and myself went kajacking for the very first time ever.
We went to Lough Leane and we had the most incredible experience.
We went with Outdoors Ireland and we couldnt have been happier or have a better trip.
We loved every moment of it, reaching the island in the middle of the lake, then going in caves and reaching Ross Island that left us breathless.
Congratulations to all in Outdoors Ireland for great organisation, and experience in organising and doing kajacking trips.

We arrived on an Irish mist filled morning, ready for a short journey by open boat to Ross Castle amongst other points of interest. Nothing could have prepared us for what our eyes took in. To say that Lough Leane was beautiful is an understatement as you can see by some of the pictures I had taken on this day in July.

We walked around Lough Leane this time when we were there and it was great, the views were superb and for most of the time we did not meet anyone. The only little downfall is that you pass a lot of ruins or intersting fauna and flora and you have no idea what you are really looking at. There are numbers at some of them so there must be some explaination somewhere, but we weren't able to find it.
