About
We have made the decision to close Muckross House, Craft Centre & Garden Restaurant until March 29th in order to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 virus. We have a social responsibility to our staff, families & customers to do what is right. Stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you when this temporary setback passes. Muckross House, Gardens, and Traditional Farms represent the focal point and nucleus of Killarney National Park. The house and property are breathtaking! Patsy, a guide in the house was so helpful in our tour of the house. She also took time to advise us on other aspects of our trip. She’s the best! Take a walk to the falls or drive to the parking area. You will not be disappointed!

Gorgeous house. The cafe was fantastic. The gothic church was beautiful and there was live music that day. The gardens were lovely!

Overall, I was not too impressed by the Muckross Estate. The history behind it is very interesting and the stories about the Queen's visit were great insight into the pressures of aristocracy back in those times. But, the house is not that different from other large houses. Since we went in November of 2021, there were no guided tours and the pamphlet that is provided has very limited information. There were several people stationed throughout the house to answer questions. In only one case, was there a person stationed that would actually provide an oral account (unsolicited) -this was in the servant's kitchen area -she was very informative and provide a lot of context to how the house was run at the time. In all other cases, the people stationed would just ask if you had any questions vs provide any keen insight that was not readily identifiable with your own eyes. Also, there was a huge fly problem in some of the rooms -literally, 100's of flies in the children's quarters. If you have to make trade-offs when touring Killarney National Park, I think I'd do the Abbey and a Jaunting Car trip before splurging on the house tour.

Lovely,…it was lovely! The house with it’s docents and brochure, was fun and filled with factual information about the life and living in the era it was built. The house, the gardens and the farms all meticulously kept and staffed for visitors. The cafe as well offered a large selections of foods and ours were delicious. Social distancing was managed well and the gift shop too offered some things specific to Muckross and well and other Irish treasures.

Visited this lovely and very well maintained home in early October. The tour guides were very helpful as my husband was using a zimmer frame. We were able to take our time as they were staggering entries due to COVID. Interesting fact, Queen Victoria stayed at the house in 1861. The Herbert family spent six years getting ready for her visit and she only stayed for two days.
Definitely recommend if your a fan os seeing old Victorian homes.

Amazing and beautiful estate which was handed over to the public to maintain and use. The house is impressive; very well maintained so in an excellent state. We could go into most areas and watch many things from up close. We were therefore surprised by the low entrance fee.
The park is beautiful; the gardens, the lake, the trails. Parking is free which allows anyone to enjoy this estate by walking around or enjoy the tea room.
We walked around the lake, visiting Torc waterfall at the end and walked to the tea room to end our visit with some delicious warm drinks.
A beautiful place altogether which we will visit again.

The house is maintained in beautiful condition. I wish pictures were allowed but completely understand why they are not. The guidebook was very well put together allowing us to take a step back into the past.

We never got a chance to go inside, but the castle and gardens are gorgeous even from the outside. We even took a horse drawn carriage ride. Stunning views! If you go, please don't miss the Torc Waterfall hike nearby. It was lovely!

The house was worth seeing on the inside and I'm glad I went. But I would not recommend the traditional farms for adults with no children. It's a lot of walking and everything is a recreation. Cute to see the farm animals and educational to be sure but I would have preferred spending my time seeing the waterfall or enjoying the park more. Little kids will be thrilled however. Once you are in the farms it's a big long loop with no quick exit if you decide you've had enough.

4 of us elderly 70+ visitors enjoyed our walk around Muckross House on Sunday 12 Sept - BUT we had bought a joint ticket for the house and farms- to see craftsmen at work etc. When we arrived at the reception area for the farms, we were simply pointed to the small entrance after our tickets had been checked.
Imagine how we felt, when after about a mile uphill trek up a road with still no sign of the farms, 2 of us had to turn back simply exhausted. At NO TIME did either the ticket seller, nor the person at reception mention how far the farms were, and bearing in mind our ages this was inexcusable !!
The 2 of our group who struggled to eventually reach the first of the farms, found the others were still further on ! They then found out there was a cart buggy available to take them down back to the entrance !
The Managers of this Tourist attraction should ensure there is a continuous buggy cart service from reception up to the farms, & IF NOT- WARN people- especially the elderly or those with young children of the distance & difficult walk to get there !
From a bitterly disappointed tourist at the lack of genuine concern by staff at this attraction !
